There are different schools of thought around this and, to my mind, quite a lot of mith around it. My view is: light it with a lighter or a match by gently puffing on it. Done.

Others prefer to use cedar-wood matches only, then light it by gently rotating the tip of it as near to the flame as possible without actually touching the flame.

I have tried both methods and have never been able to taste the difference.

I would probably not use a Zippo myself actually. I'd be worried about spoiling the taste of the cigar. Other than that I usually use a gaz lighter and it works fine for me.

The zippo lighter hes talking about is a torch. I use a torch or matches to light my cigars.

Well, it looked to me as if he's using a Zippo instead of a torch but there you go....

No the zippo was the lighter fuel one and not the torch insert. I let it burn for a few seconds just to get the smell away. It doesn't do anything to the taste. I just like the torch better because of more control with the flame.

I usually use a torch lighter and hold it so the flame is just below cigar and slowly rotate it till the edge is white all the way around then i move the flame more towards the center of the cigar and take a couple puffs.... sometimes if i dont do the rotation thing then i'll get an uneven burn right a the very begining.

I usually light with a torch lighter, but, at the moment it is out of commision. I am using a $0.99 lighter with an adjustable flame that I slightly modified. It throws out about a 7" flame that is pretty fun to use. It is just a little harder to light those smaller cigars, the flame gets a little close to my face for comfort.

This is the way I do it also. I think it works best.
