  1. Default Help: Mild Cigar Recommendations / Sampler Packs & More

    Hi Everyone,

I just joined today and tried searching the threads and didn't have much luck. Can someone help me out (newbie)? :)

    ---

    1) I'm going on vacation this weekend and I'm looking to buy a good mild cigar to smoke. Anyone have any recommendations?

    2) Can you recommend a good sampler pack for someone whose new to cigar smoking? I'm looking to get acquainted with the different types...etc to find out what I'll like and won't like.

    3) What are some good websites that contain user ratings on cigars?

    4) Good websites for purchasing cigars at a good price?

Thanks in advance for the help and getting me started.

    Sorry, can't help you there.

    2) Can you recommend a good sampler pack for someone whose new to cigar smoking? I'm looking to get acquainted with the different types...etc to find out what I'll like and won't like.
I can't. But I know someone who can.

    3) What are some good websites that contain user ratings on cigars?
You mean, as well as this one?

    Try cigarpass.com, cigarweekly.com, cigaraficionado.com.

    4) Good websites for purchasing cigars at a good price?
    I like jrcigars.com, cigarbid.com, cigarsinternational.com.

Thanks in advance for the help and getting me started.

I suggest finding a local cigar shop (superpages.com or yellowpages.com can help you out there) and ask for some help.

The first time I walked into a shop, the girl there was more than happy to pick out whatever I was interested in. I think I went for 5 sticks in the $5 range. She really knew her stuff and picked out some great smokes in my price range.

Solid advice. The guys that work in my local smoke shops get all juiced about spreading their knowledge and making selections.

You know, I think I'm going to start asking for one suggested stick every time I go in to the shop. Always rely on the expertise of others...

I'd recommend seriouscigars.com if you want to get some single sticks.

I totally agree with the local smoke shop advice. Not only recommendations but the monthly events have been great. I'm going to a SEP event that will pair food, wine and Ashton cigars at a local premium restaurant here in California's wine country.

As for cigar samples, I signed up with all the on-line cigar sites I could. I've learned a lot about the businesses by the nature of their weekly specials. I unsubscribed to a couple very quickly. Others like Cigar International have become my friend. My most recent and best experience was an introductory offer from Famous Smoke Shop, fifteen quality cigars for about $25 including shipping.

    Hope this helps.

    Oops! Forgot something...

The cigar rating site that has really earned my respect is http://www.top25cigar.com/

I may be tempted to buy an on-line cigar because the price is sooooo right, but the name is unknown to me, so I check out Top 25 Cigar. If it's not there I won't consider the purchase any longer. Between Top 25 Cigar and my local smoke shop I've stayed a happy man.

just wanted to welcome you to the boards and to congratulate (sp?) you on using the search engine first. that's one of my biggest irks on this and other boards.

as a relitive newbie myself i have no advise except find a local tobacconist. i've learned quite a bit from them. and also hang out here a while and you are bound to find out alot more about cigars.

I would buy a box of something decent and see if someone might send you 5to 10 differant cigars you can try ,you can pick up some decent priced midrange cigars from cbid,or just offer some money to one of the senior members for some sticks, everyone around here i pretty trustworthy
