I just started this thread to give superman a place to yak so he'd stop clogging up my Astros thread![]()
I'm an ASTROS fan and a National League fan. The American League quite honestly doesn't really interest me.
I live deep in the heart of Red Sox country in northeastern Connecticut (less than 90 miles from Boston) and I've been surrounded by Red Sox fans all my life, so much so that I found it a little annoying when I was younger. My two best friends who I've known since first grade are die hard Red Sox fans because their fathers are. One of these guys has had weekend season tickets for over 20 years and was kind enough to bring me to a game when the Astros made their first visit to Fenway Park last year (the Sox won). I see these guys on a regular basis and I play cards with them once a month. The first thing they do is come down to my basement and turn the tv on to the Red Sox game. Again, I wasn't as interested in the Sox as they were but I tell ya, I was SO HAPPY for THEM and all the rest of the loyal Sox fans around here when they did it last year!! My ex-wife's father was born in 1924 and died in 1996. He NEVER saw them win a World Series. My ex-wife pretty much hates baseball but even she cried tears of joy for her dad when they beat the Cardinals 4 games to none to win the World Series for the first time in 86 years. Ya had to be here in New England to see it first hand. Again, it didn't matter so much to me but WOW for the people I've known all my life who've hung in with the Sox through thick and thin, it was one of the greatest moments in sports I've ever seen. THREE MILLION people turned out in Boston for the victory parade, it was amazing!!!
And I've got some friends who are Yankee fans and I'm happy for them when the Yankees do well, it just happens SO OFTENit's not as dramatic or at the same level when the Red Sox do it. The Yankees are by far THE BEST TEAM IN BASEBALL over the years, that's cool too, the Giants and the Dodgers are icons as well BUT THEY MOVED, the Yankees never did. I tip my hat to the Yankees success over the years and their accomplishments which as I said in a previous post will never be equaled in my lifetime.
As far as my analysis of the rest of the season, I don't think either side of the Red Sox/Yankees debate can argue that the Sox slightly have the upper hand for the rest of this season BUT all that being said, the Sox lost tonight and the Yankees won so NY is only 1 1/2 games in back of the SoxThe Yankees are a force to be reckoned with, even when the odds are against them so, ya won't see me puttin' any money or cigars down on either side of this one:
WHO WILL WIN THE AL EAST?

Well put Bill. I gotta add one more knock to Massholes and NE fans in general that I didn't put in previous posts. Maybe this is more of a question than a comment, but who the heck attacks their own victorious team when they have their victory parade (eg baseball thrown at Pedro), or kills people during victory riots (eg when the Pats won the super bowl)? Can someone please explain to me why fans react like this? I'm so happy I have to hurt someone? You see it other places where teams don't win very often, but you'd think the Patriots fans would have grown up a little and gotten better at celebrating.
Anyway, just one last knock on the massholes, that's another reason they're holes.

True..... very true...... You never saw anybody doing any of that stuff at the NUMEROUS ticker tape parades that the NY Yankees received for their NUMEROUS World Series victories.
Ya see, the problem with the Boston fans at the parade was that they had no idea what to do at a "Victory" parade since it was soooooo long since the last one.
CAN YA FEEL THE LOVE ????????
LET'S GO YANKEES !!!!!!!!

Now, I'm going to pull a superman and talk about the Astros hereWe've never BEEN IN a World Series let alone won one. Hell the FIRST TIME we EVER WON a playoff series and advanced to the next round was 2004. I don't think there's team that's been around as long as the Astros who've NEVER won a World Series. The second Washington Senators (now the Texas Rangers) may be ahead of us in this "place" in baseball history. The first Washington Senators are now the Minnesota Twins. Hold on, yep, the Astros started in 1962 as the Houston Colt 45's so bascially BOTH Texas baseball teams hold the dubious distinction of not accomplishing $hit

Texas just can't get it up when it comes to baseball, and ever since the triplets of Dallas got old, they haven't been able to get it up for football either. At least you got Parcells though now, he's gonna push that team towards SB contender in another 2-3 years.

I thought that we covered the attacking of the players part all ready. This is kind of hypocritical coming from a couple of battery throwers.![]()
PS I know I know I watched the game tonight too.![]()

NY fans throw batteries at guys like John Rocker, not our own players. During celebrations, massholes have attacked the very team they're celebrating.

Well Pedro was leaving the team because he is a big cry baby and couldn't stand being second to Schilling.
