I was at the hospital with her, we have insurance, I just said I would send you the bill so you'd believe she was there. Look man, I'm sorry for starting the flame thread with you. I don't have a problem with you, I just took offense to the comments about my mom. Sorry man, I've just had a stressful day.

    Default OK..I stand corrected....

I didn't catch the initial thread.

Yet Sarge seems to be on the forgiving side, having a "wait and see" type stand.

RY may be a POS but I still think we should let Sarge determine that.

Just goes to show you, never deal with strangers.

    Hey George, wanna trade?

I, for one, think it took some real balls for RY to post an update.

He was involved in a deal that went south for whatever reason and he was faced with the decision to walk away with 5 free smokes or come through on his end of the deal. And, given that he was catching hell from most everyone on this site (rightfully so), it's REAL easy to give everyone the finger and walk away.

As a noob, I kind of see where he's coming from, too. If I was involved in a trade with a more experienced smoker, I'd certainly wait to see what he sent me before picking out something to send back. It would really suck to receive a Cohiba, a Hemingway Signature, a Monty White, a Padron 1964, and in Opus X if you sent out a couple Rolys, a couple 8-5-8s and an Acid Nasty.

And, hey, I was a student once, too... I had to decide between cigarettes and milk at the checkout line, too. (cigarettes won)

But actions talk, so I guess we'll see if Sarge gets his smokes...

Clearly you do not understand the trade thing. If you and I do a trade, unless we agree on the terms of the trade and we leave it open for whatever. If you wait to get it so you can match it, what's the sense of doing a trade? After all - you could buy most of what I send you at the store.

Most of the FOGS that I know are some of the most generous people you'll meet - including CigarSarge. Many times I do a trade to make sure my fellow BOTL gets what he wants, knowing full well they cannot compensate me for what I send at the moment. I expect you to do two things in return - be a stand up BOTL (respect those you trade with) and pay-it-forward (if I wowed you with what I send, when you can - wow the newbie who's starting out).

I've been the recipient of the generosity of a number of BOTL's - which has provided me with cigars I'd never even dream of trying. The stuff I send out sometimes is repayment of those past kindnesses.

Take a lesson from one who is beaten up for the way he conducts himself with trades - Moochie the Clown (aka PuroBrat). If you haven't got something to trade - don't do trades. Don't mooch cigars off of others unless you fully intend on paying it back or paying it forward. If you make a mistake, fix it - make up for it - don't be afraid to overdo it a bit. MAKE IT RIGHT!!! The way you act in these trades is a reflection of your character.

I had to take her to the emergency room last night there asshole at 2am, was there until 7am, then left for school, then once out of school I returned to the hospital until around 4pm this afternoon. Sorry, I couldn't find time in between being at the hospital with her to mail the cigars. I appreciate you taking a cheap shot there buddy.
You can go here to look at the pics for yourself:

    RY, here's the deal:

Everyone here understands life can suck at times (especially if a loved one is in the hospital). BUT, you made a commitment to Ken and are in default. It would have taken you all of 10 minutes to stop at a PO on your way to the hospital. Look at it this way...

If you were 2 months behind on a utility bill, your service would be off. Doesn't matter why you are behind, that's not their problem. Now, I'm not being a prick here. The vast majority of the guys here and definitely Ken would not take the "I don't care what problems you have" stance when it comes to you completing a trade, IF the communication is there. But you dropped the ball and now it's time for you to put all excuses aside and fulfill your commitment.

Maybe it's just my competitive nature, but if I'm going to receive a gift, I want to give a gift of at least equal value.

It's intimidating enough to be around people so knowledgeable. Throw price into the mix and my little head just about explodes! *boom*

thats why you dont go doing a trade the day you get here. you learn about the hobby, you learn about quality and craftsmanship and what is coveted etc.

even on cigarpass, a website made for passing cigars around, you dont just go passing cigars around when you first get there . . . there are two major components of a pass/trade i think

    knowledge and reputation

you have to KNOW that something is acceptable as a fine or premium cigar or even a decent cigar.

you have to also BE known for knowing that and trading succesfully

Leaf and ale, next time try smokin joes. a bit cheaper.

Reaganyouth84, calm down. you admitted yourself that you messed up, this is part of the process. When you screw up in real life, you get a little bit of rough your way don't ya? It happens. Grow thicker skin, send your end first for awhile, and get past this. You can do it.

If you have obligations that'll come in the way of you sending what is owed, don't do it. Matter of fact, think of it like this, if ain't holding the sticks, you ain't got them to trade.

Now, I realize we all have busy days. I'm having a really busy day, but it won't excuss me taking 5 minutes to run across town and drop off these packages I've told other people I'd have out to them. You are in college, UTK, a nice school, you should be a responsible guy. Show us you are. Don't fall on the way side.

As a great man once told me, "Less typing, more taping". Go to the Post office today, ship it out, and ask the guy behind the counter for a delievery confirmation number.

Let's move on with this RY84.

And PS. I don't think the "Great Communicator" would like those mean words you are using in some of those posts. it would affend him.

I suffered a middle/severe flaming in my first couple of weeks on c/s based on a misunderstanding. After the dust had settled, several people sent me some pretty generous bombs to make up for a bad first impression. The ones that particularly impressed me were the bombs from the guys who had taken no part in the initial flaming.

Let me put it another way, I got to try some cigars I had only read about before, because some members of c/s felt badly about the way I had been treated by other members of c/s.

Now that’s the sort of behavior that creates quite an impression on a know-nothing newbie like myself.

Credibility is everything around here. Not just individual credibility, but the credibility of CigarSmokers.com membership as a whole. A couple of bad apples, a bum trade here and there, and the whole thing just goes *phut*. That’s why the FOGs come down so hard on anyone who slips up. Seems to me that ol' ReaganYouth here has been getting a pretty easy ride. Probably because the guy he's dealing with is a stand-up guy.

When you say you want to give a gift of at least equal value you're being a little naive, for at least two reasons. First, it is a very rare trader who will send his end first to some newbie with no track record. They might be generous but they’re not nuts. Second, most of the guys who bombed me the first couple of times, if I tried to bomb them back they’d just laugh. How the hell am I, who got interested in cigars as a hobby a couple of months ago, going to be “more generous” to someone who has been smoking and collecting cigars for years? These are guys who discuss the merits of various box codes.

You can't pay these surly fs back. Don't even try. Pay it forward.

    Well?

Did "Sarge" get his cigars? Did they go out in the mail at least? Huh?

I'm a relatively well-educated BOTL, serious about it for the last four years, but I've never traded much and never done much online rappin' about cigars. Just signed up here this morning, after reading and learning quite a bit.

I'd really like to get into the trading, and I have quite a bit to trade .... but frankly, this ReaganYouth kid has soured me on the idea.

Has he even offered a reason for his actions? If I send somebody $100 worth of premium cigars, am I, too, going to have to wait a month to read a post full of lame excuses?

Very disappointing. I hope somebody will at least sound off if Sarge actually gets his cigars.

I have spoken on the matter of Reganyouth84. My posts clearly state my opinions. It will be up to the board to come to it's own conclusions about him. I will post whatever happens here in public.

I will say the board has a reputation to uphold. I like this board and will do all I can do to make it reputable. What happens from here is up to the rest of the members. We must keep it above board. We can not harbor scammers and thieves. Hopefully this will be the only incident to this nature to occur here. But if further ones occur we must stick together and do what needs to be done.
