Where to place hygrometer.

I have recently set up a 100 count two level humidor. My question is where do I put the digital hygrometer? I have two humidifiers in the lid. If I place it in the lid or top shelf it reads 5 to 7% higher then if I place it on the bottom. I am thinking the bottom would give me the better reading since it would not be right next to the humidifiers. Am I correct in thinking this?

Strange, I've never had that happen to me. Placement in the humi should not matter at all. I use 120 quart coolers and no matter where I place the hygrometer, the reading is always the same.

I wonder if it has had a chance to really balance out. It has only been set up for two days. Do you think this could make a difference?

Probably not, it only takes a few minutes for a hygrometer to adjust to the humidity. When I open my refrigerdor, the hygro is mounted on the door so if I keep the door open and the room is dry, it adjusts itself in less than a minute to the RH in the room (I have a hygrometer on the wall in the room too).

I really don't know what to tell you other than to not worry too much about it. RH varies slightly (unless you're using beads) and I pretty much only worry when I see a huge move down which means ADD MORE WATER.

Just an update here. When the hygrometer is on the bottom of the humidor it reads 65% RH. When it is in the lid right next to the humidifiers, it reads 78% RH. Anyone have a recommendation as to where to place it?

I was also wondering if the humidor maybe hasn't absorbed the moisture evenly yet?

did you prep the humidor by putting a shotglass of water in it for a couple days... so the wood could absorb the humidity?

if you didnt i would guess that the wood is still absorbing the moisture.

No I did not. I'll put the cigars in my smaller humidor and leave the shotglass in there for a few days.

Ay 'dor that i've bought has always come with an outside-reading hygro, but i figure the idea is to have the hygroabout half-way between the most damp, and least-damp areas (granted, there should be little variation) but it'll do you no good to know how humid the most humid part is.

By the way, JStrider, is that quote from American Psycho? It seems to be familiar... Sounds like the scene where all of the stereotypical 1980's Vice-Presidents are comparing each other's drastically similar business cards. But maby it's from something else, I donno.
