  1. Default While Smoking a Cigar, What Are the...

dumbest / annoying comments random people have said to you?

    - I was smoking a churchill one time, and some punk kid comes up to me and goes, "Huh huh, that thing would be cool if you filled it with weed instead." Well it wasn't so cool after I punched him in the face and he went home crying to his mother.

    - Another time I was smoking outside, some random guy starts bitching to his friend about how he despises the smell of cigar smoke. So my girlfriend who has a blackbelt in karate chopped him in the face and he ran screaming/whining like Corona Gigante...oh I mean like a little baby.

(the last two parts of my story I was j/k for people who don't know me)

I fired up a Cohiba Sig IV at the Brickyard 400 race this last August. The people sitting behind me, who had been smoking cigarettes the whole time, apparently didn't like it too much... They took to spraying their cooling fan at me for most of the second half of the race. Very soothing, I must say....

I've never gotten a bad comment, God fear the person who does.

Although when I worked in the Tinderbox (In a smoke-free mall) we were the only place in the mall you could smoke. I wore it out. I smoked all the time. There are these girlies booths outside the shop, and it drove them nuts...

    I kinda miss that place.

Just carry your side-arm with you whenever you smoke, I'm sure nobody will have any comments then.

I was at a bar the other night, a dance club, enjoying a Partagas No 4 when a girl tells me it stinks. She has this nasty look on her face and she says it while puffing on a cigarette. I laugh and tell her what she's smoking is no better and her reply is "I guess I have to put up with it" then she asks what nationality I am(not sure what that matters). I tell her I am Austrian(I am also half Persian), she then turns around like a snob and starts talking to her boyfriend. A few minutes later I took a large puff of my cigar and blew it right at the back of her head. Right away she taps her boyfriend on the shoulder and while pointing at me says something, probably "lets get outta here, he stinks", and stomps off F-n b-tch

Not something annoying but it was damn funny. At a bar with some of my co-workers and one of them, a very attractive woman, looks at me as I'm lighting up and says "Oh Nate that thing is so big." I almost dropped my cigar I was laughing so hard.

OK now you can start the wisecracks about "hey Joe if only she knew the truth" and that sort of thing. I know how you smartasses are

Since I usually smoke at home or in my car the comments have never came my way.

I remember being a wee lad in the 80s when you could smoke in many more places. I have this very vivid memory of a sign on door of a shopping mall that said "No pipe or cigar smoking". It perplexed me why you could smoke cigarettes, which have a repulsive stench, and you couldn't smoke cigars or pipes, which I actually liked the smell of...

I'm still perplexed to this day. I still love the smell of cigar and pipe tobaccos and dislike cigarette smoke...

Most of my outdoor smoking is down by the water, so I may offend the occasional tourist (watch me care), but I mostly just look like an old sea dog out there with his stogie and beer, staring at the water and muttering to myself.

I did catch a bit of a ribbing for lighting up during my football practice (I was injured at the time), but that was more lighthearted than anything else...

I have a story that is kind of along those same lines. Last Friday my wife and I went out to eat like we usually do on the weekends. We went to our usual place. Niko's is right in town and I know the owner pretty well. They had a live band there. It is a couple of guys. One plays the piano and the other plays the guitar. They do a lot of Jimmy Buffett and other upbeat songs. They can pretty much play anything from the 50's to the 80's. After dinner we went back out to the bar to listed to the band and I lit up a cigar, a H. Upmann Vintage. There was a couple sitting next to us, smoking cigarettes. The lady looked at me and said "Can you please put that out, the smoke bothers me." To which I replied I would rather smell this smoke than that nasty shit in that cigarette. I showed her were there were a couple of open seats at the other end of the bar. She was disgusted. So she called over the bartender, who also happened to be Niko, the owner. She asked if he could make me put it out. Niko told her that she could find another seat somewhere. He said that I was a good customer, and if I wanted to smoke a cigar, I could. We are only in there everynight on the weekends. I usually just have him run a tab for me. I don't think he charges me for half the drinks though. We were in there and probably had about 6 drinks a piece. 6 captain and coke for me and 6 absolute and lemonades for Jenny. Her parents were also in there for dinner with there friends and I bought them each a drink. At the end of the night my tab was $22. I love that place!! The couple who was disgusted by my cigar smoking left pretty quickly. OH WELL!!

It is right on Main Street in Twin Lakes. It is across the street from the fire department and Stans Lumber. It is a big yellow victorian style house. They have a nice bar and the food is great. Lots of greek stuff. Lamb Chops are my favorite.

Wow, good for you man, I can imagine in most places they would side with the cigarette smokers, damn them all to hell!!!
There's only two kinds of cigars, the kind you like and the kind you don't.

Agreed. Before I started smoking cigars (so I don't sound bias), I always liked the smell of a good cigar or a tobacco pipe. Cigarettes I absolutely despised and couldn't stand that rot gut smell.

No worries. Just don't take any pictures ok? We wouldn't want "billyjenkins" posting them and showing what "really happened" during your meet up that night.

Interesting stories btw, thanks for sharing....keep 'em coming if you have any...

99% of the time I get comments or inquiries from people who are pleased with the aroma. I get alot of "What type of cigar is that? It smells great." I actually had an older woman (60 or so) come up to me outside of a store (wife was shopping and I was sitting on a bench in front smoking) and tell me "Wow that smells really wonderful. My husband used to smoke cigars all the time and I just loved it! I even had one with him a few times." I had an extra one and offered it to her and she said "Thank you! I will smoke it tonight!" She was very excited about the opportunity to smoke another cigar.

The only time I get any negative comments is from my mom (who is a pack a day cigarette smoker!). And it's always the same old "that stinks!" or "The smoke gets to me." Of course I bring up her cigarette smoking and she claims "the cigar smoke is thicker and has a bad effect on me" as if the cigarette smoke doesn't! Oddly enough it doesn't keep her away!
