Just curious if anyone else here on the board plays guitar. If so, what kind of setup do you have, and why style do you play?

Play? Yes. Play well? No.
I've got a cheap-ie electric running a little 12W BCRich practice amp and a 30yr old Hohner Acoustic. I very briefly owned a Garnet BTO head, but I couldn;t afford a cabinet for it, nor really justify having such an amazing, large amp so I sold it 2 weeks later for 5 times what I paid...gotta love vintage gear.![]()
Yeah, I just bought a Fender Blues Deluxe. It's not an original, but it's a re-issue. It was made in 93, which is the first year they made the re-issues, so in a way it is vintage. It has the tweed covering on it instead of the black tolex. It's pretty sweet. Next on the agenda is a 1962 stratocaster re-issue, hopefully a japanese made.Originally Posted by thepyrofish

and play acoustic exclusively. My first guitar was an old Martin given to me by an uncle, which was stolen from my car. I replaced it (I believe in the first year they were made) with a deep-backed Ovation that's really sweet, and that I still play today. My 12 string is an Epiphone from around 1970.Originally Posted by reaganyouth84

Some day I'll give him this ratty old electric Fender I've never used.
Yeah, I play - my set up is a chair. I have a thin-body Alvarez w/ built in pickup that, run through a dist. pedal and an amp gets really close to Neil Young in his Crazy Horse days. The amp is sweet - a '67 Fender reverb that I got for a song (pun intended) I had the speakers re-coned a while back and the capacitors replaced. No solid-state here, just tubes and the mechanical reverb (if you've never seen one of these, they're pretty cool.) Finally, I bought material that dupes the original and re-covered the front. All the pots work, etc. The amp is fun, but I'm usually unplugged.
Also, I have a Les Paul that I rarely play. It's an '83 and heavy as hell. I also have a kid who can play anything and he'll probably get it someday.
I like all kinds of stuff - Neil, U2, Rolling Stones, John Prine, Cowboy Junkies, Pink Floyd. Stuff on the radio I can pick the basics out in one pass and then it morphs into something I can handle. Even though I'm from Texas, I don't listen to or play much country.

They have a few of Gibson factories in Nashville. I've gone through one, and there are a lot of vintage instruments lurking around Music City. Nashville is a pretty cool place. I saw the John Mayer Trio a few weeks ago at the Ryman Auditorium(the place where the Grand Ol' Opry started) its on the national register of historic places, very nice venue.

That's what my son plays - w/a lot of black metal. Maybe it's just a phase. Not a big fan of the bm, but, he's awesome.Originally Posted by Drake

A Gibson Les Paul Studio and a beat all to hell Headway acoustic. An even more beat up ancient Crate amp for the Gibson. I try to keep my playing to when I am alone or when everyone is drunk, then they think I'm a superstar.I mostly play the acoustic now but break out the gibson when I feel the need to play some Ramones.
i'm not either except for opeth, who i'm going see tonight. there're a tasteful bm band from swedenOriginally Posted by basil

I've played for about 10 years. I own several guitars, but my baby is a 1963 Gibson LG0 acoustic. I play a little bit of everything, but mostly blues.
Have you ever thought about maybe turning off the TV, sitting down with your kids...and hitting them?
