Default Well I am double screwed and messed up!!!

First, I get caught at work making 2,622 hits on alcohol/tobacco sites in September. So have to cut waaaay back on coming here during working hours.

Then, my home PC (7 year old POS, windows 98) starts acting up and there are a bunch of websites I can no longer access (this page is no available), even though my wife is on the same wireless router as me and she can get to the pages I can't.

So the only way I can come here is very sparingly at work, or use my wife's PC at home, so until one or the other comes around, will be here less often. Shit.

If you still have a working monitor and keyboard ya might want to try this Apple Mini

It is an Apple and will take some time to get used to, but I will never go back to a PC

Tommy, you and I are two new yorkers in a pod. Why anyone is still running Winblows these days I just don't know. If you're smart enough, switch to Linux, if you're smart enough but don't have the time, switch to a mac.

Ditto on the Apple. Look at this as an opportunity to switch. I use both Windows and Mac OSX, and Mac is by far the more stable, reliable, intuitive and trouble-free system.

the only time I really surf the boards is at work. No internet in the apartment and I'm usually busy on the weekends.

It sounds like you have a virus. I am guessing you have virus protection up to date in your machine? All else fails refortmat it. There no way your email site should not be coming up.

Well I got down to only 103 cigar hits in November and only 400+ total hits so I'm outta trouble. But that explains why I'm hardly ever here.

The list keeps growing. I can no longer go to google, yahoo, amazon, cigarpass, cigarsmokers, and many other places. I do have up to date virus protection from McAfee. I think after discussing this at length with my ISP I need to upgrade from Windows 98, as that may be part of the problem.

Well I am a few months away from buying a brand new PC (oh gods ye gods, please) so I dread spending any more money on my current POS.

Did they offer to sell you a copy of XP as well? That's a load of horsecrap. Until 2 months ago I had been using my old 98 machine, original version, not the updated 98, because my XP machine blowed up, and it ran just fine.

You have some kinda spyware browser hijacker screwing you up. If all you have is McAffee you probably have a couple dozen virus crawling through your machine as well. Some backdoor trojans. Probably got some goob in China using your machine as a spambot. If you don't have your HOST file locked down, a firewall, spyware detection/removal software, along with quality virus protection you might as well throw your machine out the window into a ditch. And that's just the beginning of securing a computer. When was the last time you ran update on your computer? There were a ton of security updates for 98 as early as 2 months ago.

Some folks did a test recently. Took a newly formatted machine, hooked it to the internet, and it was blown up with trojans and virus' in less than 10 minutes. And they didn't do anything but connect to the internet.

Your best bet would be download a firewall, updated virus protection, and other modes of anti-scumbag weaponary on a secured system, burn it to a CD, full format your PC, and start over. And get it secured before you connect to the internet.
