I've just had good luck with florist foam and recently "Soil Moist" with distilled water and PG. Its that polymer stuff used to retain water in potting soil. $2.99 for a small bag at WalMart and half of it fills my Cigar Oasis Extended unit.

The beads just seem awfully pricey.
I played around with the Soil Moist stuff a while back, it grew mold real fast. I guess I neglected to add the PG, but with in 2 weeks it had black mold growing all over the top of it.

I ended up buying a 7 pound jug of silica cat litter beads and conditioning them myself. They work like a champ.

I get the ExquisiCat beads at Pets Mart, fill up a nylon stocking with them, and place them in an air tight Tupperware box with a bowl of water and a digital hygrometer for a week or two (wait till the hygrometer gets to ~70%).

I made my first batch about 2 months ago and use ~2lbs per 150 quart Igloo Cooler. I check every day or two and the humidity remains at ~68%. I haven’t had to refresh them yet, but all you have to do is add a water source for a couple of days when they start slacking.

I flavor my beads with a nice marinara sauce. Makes the beads spicy, peppy, and ready to get the job done! My cigars come out zesty and full of life....maron!

    Fogettabout anything else.

The trick with the marinara sauce is to slice the garlic sooo thin that it actually melts when you saute' it in the butter. (thank you Henry Hill)

Do you work for White Owl? Don't you think giving away trade secrets like this will make them mad?

I hear Phillies and Dutches get their unique flavor profile with a special aging process utilizing old Port-o-potties as walk in humidors.
