Default Cigar buff wants ban of smoking to become optional

PHOENIX — A cigar aficionado is launching an initiative drive to help preserve his ability and that of other smokers to light up in restaurants and bars.

The measure would let business owners decide whether their establishments have to be smoke- free. Those who chose to permit customers to indulge would have to post a "conspicuous sign" that smoking is allowed inside.

These businesses also would have to tell would-be employees that smoking is allowed, letting them decide if they want to work there anyway.
Hopefully he will succeed. Unfortunately, this seems too logical for the illogical, over-emotional, "don't confuse me with the facts" anti-smoking zealots.

I've always thought it should be at the proprietor's discretion. It seems to be taking away from the right of the owner to decide whether or not he wants smoking in his facility...

However, I have to say it's kind of nice. I don't go out to a lot of bars, but my football team hold their annual Christmas party at a bar. At some weird hour of the night I realized it was actually kind of nice sitting in a bar that isn't full of stale cigarette smoke...

Of course, I would have LOVED to spend the night smoking some of my favorite cigars, but I'll take the sacrifice...

Cigars and pipes yay, cigarettes boo

Most of the restarants here allow smoking. Texarkana has a smoking ban on Texas side of town (half of the town is in texas, half is in arkanasas), but if you serve alcohol you can also allow smoking.

That probobly won't pass. It makes WAYYY too much sense and doesn't involve the knee-jerk emotionally charged reactions that garner votes.
