I'm certainly not a professional cigar storer and I don't have years of experience. However, before I owned a humidor, I had bought a box of RyJ's Vintage #1's that comes with a slot and humidifier. I stored all those cigars in that box for the year that it took me to smoke them. It worked great. In fact, I am currently storing the remnants of another box in that box humidor and I smoked one yesterday. It was delicious. So, I don't think there is any problem as long as you moniter the humidity on occasion.

I had one RyJ that I had forgot about in that humidor which I hadn't checked for 3 months. When I found it again and smoked it, it was the best out of the whole box.

Yeah, a humidor is just a box with a humidification device.
