what is the difference between rocky patel sun grown factory seconds vs factory selects ?
I know both of these are cigars that are not perfect - so they did not put the label on the cigar.
why label one select and one 2onds?

Factory select on Famous vs the 2nds on Famous was a $5 difference, the factory select being more @$49.
The factory select look better but I have bought 6 2nds and 6 factory select at various times in the past and see no difference in them.
I twice got 2nds that were obviously old. That would not have been a problem had the stayed at proper RH for storage, but this was not the case,it tasted as if it dried out several times and slowly was brought back to life.Lost all oils and flavor.
I just but the factory select at famous now or if I find a better deal somewhere else.If I see the seconds cheaper than both at famous I will grab them.
I have seen more imperfections on a LGC Miami maduro stick than any RP seconds or FS cigars I have purchased.
Hope this helps.![]()

Sadly, I should know the answer to this since i was told it from Rocky while in Honduras. Someone on the tour asked the questioned but he told us so much information it was overwhelming to remember it all. I myself havent smoked any thing but what he puts on the shelf after the many inspections his cigars go through.![]()

I do know that most of the 2nds and the rest...They are due to cosmetic reasons usually. Since RP cigars are draw tested on each stick, maybe that could distinguish the different types of 2nds. But if you are referring to the Rocky Patel Vintages cigars which is rolled at General Cigars in Honduras, then I would kind of worry about 2nds of any of his cigars. They seldom do draw tests and when they do, well think of all the cigars they make and think of the hit and misses one gets in a box. RP has no control of those cigars.I hope that helps.

also interesting you mentioned the vintage's are seldom draw tested. I bought a 1990 vintage from my local smoke shop. it was real tuff to draw. I thought it was me - or the cigar was poorly stored.
good info. something to remember.

Well, the Sun Grown ones they ran out of one tobacco last year so the original SG are no longer unless B&M shops had them before that happened. I actually helped test one of the blends to get the new SG as close to the original as possible. That was a fun experience and I dont know how many others helped do the same thing as the group I was in did. I still have one SG in my humidor I just cant bring myself to smoke because I cant replace it now.
The RP Vintage 1992's are my favorites!!!![]()
