    Default Cigar Shopping Short List

OK, I think I'm finally close to being at peace with my first humidor. Thanks to all who provided advice, links, etc. It was trying, but if anything, I learned a new level of patience I didn't know I had.

I am going to have a go at the Newbie Sampler once I have full confidence that my humi is all settled. I've heard nothing but good regarding this service from the great group of FOG's on the list.

After many hours doing searches, reading posts & reviews and looking through on-line shops, I've compiled a short list of what I want to go shopping for. In a perfect world, the shop I go to would have all in stock and would sell me a Mega-Sampler of 3 or 4 of each, but then again, I might have a period next week too.

    Here's the list:

    • Arturo Fuente Hemingway Short Story
    • Baccarat Luchadores
    • Macanudo Baron de Rothschild
    • National Brand Sun Grown Corona
    • Oliva O Classic 6 - 50 (the biggest ring gauge on my list)
    • Partagas #2 (in the event I'm in the mood for a stronger, heavier smoke)
    • Punch Chateau M
    • Romeo y Julieta Romeo's Court Tubo

There ya go. What I currently have, plus a bunch off the list above and what I score off the Newbie Sampler list, and I think I'll have a starter collection to be proud of.

I welcome all critiques of my list, good or bad, and as thick-skinned as I am, I'm even open to flaming if you so feel inclined. I'm also open to any more suggestions you feel should be on my list.

Thanks all for reading, and Da Newf is anxiously awaiting replies.

Nice start bro, remember you should try every cigar that sparks your interest as we all have different tastes . Only thing I would avoid at all costs is Acid and any other drew estate product IMHO

Thanks Kevin. I've read good and bad (more bad I think) about Acid. I guess you either love 'em or hate 'em

If you must try them then do so,hell I've smoked a few of them and won't give any herfer shit for smoking them. DO NOT put them with your other cigars or in a humidor or it will forever have a funky smell to it.

If you get the Oliva O classic then you should try the O maduro too. Very good cigar

Thanks, I'll add that to the list. I haven't read a whole lot about Olivia, but most has been good.

Kevin7 is right about the Drew Estate smokes. If you must, go with cigars in their Natural line- (The Egg excluded). They are the closest resemblence to a good cigar that they make, IMO.

    Poppa:

    OK, I'll add those, thanks.

    Lopaka:

Aren't the Edge line a fairly heavy smoke and kind of out of line for a rookie?? I've read alot good about 'em, but to quote Rocky's Cigars:

The Edge is for professional smokers only. This unrivaled experience fills the acclimatized palate with spicy constituents accenting it's full flavor. It will leave the seasoned smoker weak in the knees without a harsh finish.

    Ahhh cool...

The Baccarat are on my avoid like the plaugue list

The Edge is a very nice smoke. It was one of my first go to smokes when I first started. I like strong smokes, myself. I don't think it's that strong, however everyone has their different tastes.

I'd try some on your say. Would you recommend the Corojo or the Sumatra??

The Edge is, IMHO, a fantastic smoke. In fact, it was the first cigar I tried that made me think, "Damn, that's what all the fuss is about!"

I also agree with Big Poppa's take on the Baccarat; I think it's a good line, especially for the price.

Nothing is out of line for a rookie. Try everything that strikes your interest. I smoked cigars maybe 3 or 4 times in 3 years, always liked it but was never really hooked on the hobby. I was out golfing with my friend last summer and we had some La Gloria Cubana Serie R #5, that was the cigar that reeled me in. I find out later that it's on the medium to strong side of things. So hey you may like something a little stronger too.

    welcome to CS.

You're on the right track. Nice little list. I see Cbid in your future. As a former victim of the Newb sampler thread, I'll tell you it is definitely worth it. Try a good variety of cigars. I'm a newbie and I've found that I really like the medium strength maduros. Give the Sancho Panza double maduro a try. Great smoke for the price too.

On a side note... I picked up some Baccarat Luchadores to give out at poker games to guys who don't normally smoke. I didn't plan on smoking them myself, but after BPP's comment I may have to give one a shot.
