    Default Newbie question(s)

    Hey there everyone,

First post here! I have a two part question. I am fairly new to the hobby, though I have been smoking cigars on and off for awhile. I just never wanted to fine tune until now....

My uncle just gave me a bunch of assorted cigars from his humidor, but by guessing, they were taken care of sporadically. So I put them in a Thompson cigar humidor that I had before. I think the seal is not the greatest, the lid just slams shut instead of the nice swoosh that you get on nicer humidors.

So I think I will be investing in a nicer humidor very soon. With that said, what is the preferred way after seasoning? The gel stuff, 50/50 mix or the tubes? Seems like there is a lot of info out there and I wonder if some of it is snake oil or not.

Secondly, what is a good way to get these cigars back into shape? Thanks!

    William

Let me be the first to welcome you to the Forum!

These two subjects have been covered time and time again here on this forum. Others can give you specific links, but I suggest you use the "Search" feature and then do a lot of reading. When you are done, you won't have any further questions with regards to these two topics.

Welcome. There is a lot of info to wade through here, but illiliilili is right, the search function will reveal two time-tested answers to both questions. Briefly:

    1) beads
    2) slowly bring them back to humidity of 65% (but most likely they're done for)

Thanks for the welcome and I will put the search engine to good use then! Although I fear they are as Bigmac said, they are done for.
