Look at that... I plumb got myself 5 raisins and 7 termites.
I'm a little late on this, but crotch rockets aren't safe period. Until you attach a real muffler onto those things and well, just get a harley, safety is nigh impossible, no matter how good the car drivers are around or the bike rider doing everything that is legal and safe. The fact is, Harley's were made loud not just because of the machismo, but because of the safety. Even if I check my blind spot a million times, a crotch rocket can sneak up unseen and legally line-ride to pass in many states, but I won't even know there's a motorcycle around because of its low-visibility and absence of noise until it's already passed me. That's why I hate crotch rockets, they're meant for race tracks, not open roads. Meanwhile, I can hear a harley, even a sportster 100-200 yards behind me and know there's a motorcycle somewhere I need to be careful of.

I hate to disagree with you, but a Crotch Rocket is as safe as the rider makes it!!! Just because so many stupid people ride sport bikes doesn't mean they should be banned!! Jeezuz, that's like the saying "Guns don't kill people, people kill people". Same goes "Bikes aren't unsafe, people are unsafe". If you have a right to bear arms, so should I have the right to ride a bike of choice. I also don't agree with the old saying "Loud pipes save lives". That's a poor justification to put "Illegal" (and they are) aftermarket pipes on bikes. I have 2 bikes, and stock pipes on both, with no intention to change.Originally Posted by BigMacFU

The only reason Harley owners have loud pipes is to drive through quiet residential neighborhoods at 2 AM - pissing off all of the neighbors... Thanks for reminding me of another thing drivers do to piss me off...

Not to be negative towards anyone's ideas or anything, but in my humble opinion I think that ALL motorcycles are unsafe in their own way. They should however not be out lawed, which I doubt anyone in a legislation anywhere on earth would suggest it. People should have the right to operate any motorvehicle they wish. But it would be much safer if everyone would just drive cars, at least there would be something protectiing the driver other than a helmet or leather.
If you get hit or wreck and hit something on any kind of motorcycle you stand a much greater chance of serious injury or death than you would in a car/truck etc...
I just thought I would let ya know what I think, everyone else was voicing an opinion.![]()
BE SAFE EVERYONE NO MATTER WHAT YOU DRIVE!!!![]()
OK, if I'm out for a ride & (God forbid) I hit an SUV, I'm gonna be messed up real bad, possibly dead, right?? Hence the basis for your theory.Originally Posted by brian

So by that theory, we should all drive dump trucks and 18 wheelers, right???
Brian, you can do better than that!!!![]()
...or we could all ride motorcycles... or bicycles... or just walk.Originally Posted by Newfie

George, that's just not true, my Uncle and pops have Harley's and I hear those 100-200 yards behind, even with my music going on the highway.
And Newfie, chill out, wow. You act like I told you you couldn't ride. I was merely stating that crotch-rockets, no matter how safe the rider and car driver, are never going to be as safe as bikes you hear coming up on you. That's just a matter of simple sound waves and amplitudes. I never said you couldn't be a safe rider, I never said young punks are the only types riding crotch rockets. All I was pointing out is how big a difference the sound makes in safety, and how the size of crotch rockets can also lead to lower visibility than typical cruiser bikes.

Sorry, Sean but if Mr. Christian Doppler were still alive he would have a mathematical argument with you about this very subject. His principles are as sound today as they were in the 1800's...Originally Posted by BigMacFU

The worst thing for me is when someone is driving in the Fast lane(or passing lane whatever you want to call it) and goes under the posted speed limit. I had to move to San Antonio, Tx for rehab and it seems that whereever I go everyone drives under the speed limit. Now, i'm not a speed demon, but I like to go about 5 to 10 miles over, hell around here it would be nice to just do the speed limit.
