davidoff with a blue label

smoked one the other day. one of the best cigars i've ever smoked. tasted like creamy chocolate coffee. i was looking around for them on the net and even at davidoff.com, i havetn't had any luck. i got the last two from my local shop. anybody know what they're called? or if its real.

My local tobaconist hasn't heard of a Davidoff with a blue band. I do remember reading an article in Cigar Aficionado awhile back about Davidoff having problems with another company producing cigars with their name....I would question as to whether or not they were real at this point...but I could be wrong.

Anyone else ever heard of these?

Yeah I haven't heard of a blue banded Davidoff, but there are still a few cigars floating around from when they were producing in Cuba before like 1973. It's possible it could be old school if the taste was there.

Like labmonkey says, could be a fake. It wouldn't be hard to fool someone, you can take an Alec Bradley Special Blend or an Alec Bradley Pryme Gold, which are reported to both be made in the Davidoff factories from davidoff seconds and slap a different label on them.

Taste pretty similar for a fraction of the price! Not a bad way to fake someone out if you wanted to mark-up the price on the Bradley's and sell as something else.

The only problem with that theory is those cigars are extremely valuable and heavily sought after...the chances of one of the actual cuban Davidoffs (let alone SEVERAL) being accidentally sold in some local cigar shop is pretty much nil.

Could you post a pic - or maybe better describe the band? Every Davidoff I've ever seen has a white band - they're very distinctive. I've never seen a blue band Davidoff. Not even the limited editions (such as the Reserva Real <<7>>).

i don't even have it anymore. i've pretty much come to the conclusion it was fake. good cigar, though

I don't know about the Alec Bradley Pryme tasting like a Davidoff. Not to me... They seem a bit too light for that (and not nearly as complex a flavor). I'm not a big fan of the Pryme's, but I love the Davidoff's.

Closer to the Davidoff's would be the SB's (Special Blends), made by Hendrik Kelner for Alec Bradley (Hendrik Kelner is the manufacturer of Davidoff, AVO, and The Griffins) which are made in Kelner factories. They used to be seconds of AVO, Davidoff and Griffins, but now they are made for Alec Bradley, and have the same quality at a fraction of the price. They taste very similar to the Davidoff's and AVO's I've had.

Also, there is a line called "Private Stock", which are AVO, the Griffin's and Davidoff. More on the AVO and Griffin's side, but these are close to Davidoff's as well.
