Cheap humidor

At my local tobacconist He sells humidors ranging from $50(can) all the way up to $1000. I think he has some nice box's for around $50 that hold 50 cigars. I bought one for $200 and am very pleased with it.It holds 200 cigars or so and gives me lots of versatility. A small $50 humidor will age and keep your cigars better then a $5 tupperware because it should be spanish cedar lined and that will impart a flavour on your cigars that most people enjoy. An option also is to drop a couple blocks of spanish cedar in with your tupperware:) I'm not gonna keep my $10-$30 cigars in a $5 tupperware though...

the tupperware is the less expensive option, and i would go with that for the time being. i personally use this option myself. i am in a tropical country and don't need to fuss all that much about storing my cigars at the perfect humidity. lucky me, i guess.

always remember to buy a humidor that is bigger than you think you would need. by the looks of it, you will outgrow a 50-count in no time. i suggest you use a good sealing tupperware for the meantime, and when you get the hang of it, and have saved some precious bucks, you can splurge on a bigger quality humi.

i myself dont like the taste of cedar in my stogies. i find them a bit too sour and pungent. but if it works for you, follow Roham's advice and stick some spanish cedar blocks in your plastic humi. it will also help regulate the humidity inside.

i got a 40 dolloar humidor from my local shop. looks just like the cheapos on ebay, i just felt a little better buying something i was holding. it keeps its himidity perfectly.

I also bought a $49.00, 50 stick Humidor from my local shop and I am very happy with it. It has served me well for a long time. I am planning on buying a bigger one eventually, but still plan on using this one too...it was cheap, but very functional, made pretty well, and has been easy to maintain once I got it stabilized.

I agree with Drake that for something like this, I feel much better buying something I can see first. We have discussed imperfections in manufacturing on these cheaper humidors in another thread, and the only way to know you are really getting a good solid box is by checking it out first in my opinion.

Thanks guys. The one local shop I have been able to locate so far had what I thought was a nice one for $50. Seem well built and solid and closed very tight. I even heard the "swoosh" when I opened and closed the lid. I think I will pick it up this weekend. Thanks again.

wtf? My humidor doesn't make a "swoosh" sound when I open it. Are they supposed too?

the 'swoosh' sound is heard in a good humidor when closing the lid by letting it drop on its own, not when opening it. this usually indicates that the humi seals well.
