    Default Cigar Equivalents

Kenyth's post (with BPP and NHs responses) here: http://www.cigarsmokers.com/t4715-am...-the-same.html on CTs and Ghurkas got me wondering...

So there are equivalents in the world... Whirlpool = Kenmore washer/dryers, Ford Escape = Mazda Tribute, you get idea...

I know Fuente makes the Ashton line, but I don't know what are the equivalents... i.e. stick for stick, and then of the two, which one's the cheaper stick.

This would be a great consumer reportish help to me and I thought might be a good idea for folks to know.

    Anyone? Anyone?

So from Kenyth's thread it seems:

. Both are Cameroon wrapped, the same unusual size, the same color, packaged the same with a cedar sleeve, and taste the same.

Carlos Torano Exodus 1959 = Ghurka Regent also seem very similar to me. Box pressed, same size, close color wrapper, flavor, etc.

Ghurka Vintage = CT Casa Torano

The two you cited, ashton and fuente, really don't match up IMO the way the Gurhka and Torano do. There is nothing on the market that compares in flavor to a VSG. Fuente has some sungrowns but there is a difference. As for the other Ashtons, I find them more flavorful than the regular fuente's.

It will be interesting to see how the ESG turns out. As it is a VSG blend with a Fuente Opus X rosado wrapper but instead of being shade grown as done on the Opus it will be sungrown. (Based on what I have been told).

Correct - sorry NH - what I meant to say was that Fuente manufactures Ashton (but there may not necessarily be 1 for 1 Fuente/Ashton). That being said, I'd love to hear what's out there...

I'll tell you another two smokes I find similar are the Cuesta-Rey Centro Fino Sun Grown and the 5 Vegas Classic (Red Label). Both get high ratings, have sungrown sumatra wrappers, and are very similar in taste profile IMHO.

By the way, what is it with the word Ghurka and it's "floating point H". Does everyone (including me) put the H in a different place depending on what day it is or what? Is it some kind of mystic power the word has, or is it simply a poor educational system that's to blame?
