I am not endorsing this site, but they do have some pretty good articles that explain much of what you are looking to learn.

Check the links under "Related Articles' That should get you started.

    Budda,

I'll try to answer your question.

Picking the right humidor is not an easy task, IMHO. There are several things to look at before deciding which humidor to purchase.

A humidor is a piece of furniture, pick one that grabs your eye and that you would be proud to display in your home or office.

The seal, element and hygrometer all work together to provide just the right environment to store your smokes. I prefer a digital hygrometer myself, never trusted the round dial type. Most boxes come complete with element and hygrometer, be sure to use distilled water to charge your element. Some people use a mixture of propylene glycol and distilled water to charge their element to help stabilize the humidity and prevent mold. As far as the seal goes, buying one over the internet can be risky. The seal on every box is slightly different and you need a tight seal.

Box size is an important consideration. If you buy one that holds 150 cigars and you only stock it with 20 or 30 cigars, you will have trouble keeping the humidity at the right level. Also, don't go to small or you will miss out on good box sales from time to time.

Any decent humidor will be lined with cedar not a lot unlike what the cigar companies ship their sticks in. Most purists would agree it's the best way to store and age any cigar.

If you smoke regular and flavored cigars, don't store them in the same humidor. You'll ruin some good sticks that way.

Hopefully others will add to this from their experience.

Good Luck and let us know when you get a new box.
