You sent me a pm basically telling me what to do without saying why. I ask why you cared, not like it's a written rule. Then you start a thread calling me out and post my private message to you in a pubic forum where you used the F word in the same paragraph where you stated this place should be suitable for 11 year old girls. Posting the private message was classy BTW.

Had you sent me another pm explaining the way your board works we wouldn't be on the 3rd or 4th page of this crap. I came here with an open mind looking to exchange cigar information presumably like the rest of you. I took down the photo, apologized for offending you and threw in a joke filled with F Bombs for your benefit since you seem to advocate such language. Sorry the joke was lost on you.

I will treat you with the same level of respect that you show me.

Your argument is POOR and FLAWED. There are SEVERAL of us who have asked you NICELY (without the use of profanity) to take down your avatar (I even sent you a PM to view my post) and JUSTIFIED why. As a relatively new member of this board I have been sitting back watching this thread develop. I want to preface this post by saying there is absolutely no disrespect intended for any other board members; long-time posters as well as anyone new.

Ok ya'll at the risk of coming off puritan, please clean up your avs and sig lines. There are other sites where you can use those pics. I'm a member at some of those as well.

In my mind, there's been a long-standing rule here that goes something like "this is a site that is safe for work and home even if you walk away from your desk and someone like your 11-year-old daughter were to scroll through it, you'd have nothing to explain or be embarassed about." Which is why I'm comfortable leaving this site up on my browser.

It struck me as ironic that, based on your 11 year old daughter scrolling through this web site, something like VW’s av would be unacceptable and yet dropping “F” bombs, saying “GD”, and talking about a woman “trying to piss in her own mouth” is somehow acceptable. You go on to point out in another post about how you “see a difference between profanity and degradation of women” and yet there is another long-time member, kevin7, that has the following tag line under his name, in large print, and next to a moving av that is definitely an eye-catcher.

Hopefully one can see how all of this can be confusing to new members. One long-time member says this site is to be appropriate to the point that his 11 year old daughter could scroll through it and then another long-time member turns around and says it’s not to be family friendly.

Again, not to be disrespectful, but all this can be very confusing to someone just starting to participate. One of the reasons I am writing this post is because my 16 year old son did indeed peruse this thread (BTW – he thought the tag line of Bkcloud114 “Has the biggest member” was hilarious). My fault for leaving it up but I have been trying to instill in him that cigar smoking requires maturity and now I am stuck with the task of explaining that what he has been reading is not a reflection of all cigar smokers and in fact probably not a true reflection of even the individuals making these comments.

I have really enjoyed the short period of time I have been on this board. I have come to an understanding that, although I am almost 53 years old, there is a lot for me to learn about cigars and cigar smoking. I have come to respect some members of this board like bigpoppapuff, godfather, and others. It is my intention to continue to be a part of this board and, over time, gain acceptance. However, if being a part of this board means I have to view the use of “F” bombs, “MF’s”, or degrading comments like the tampon remark of kevin7 as acceptable, then I was way off in my initial assessment this board.

This is an adult board for people 18 and over to participate on. There are, however, some concessions made to accomodate the members here who often logon from work. One concession is that graphic avatars not be used and any questionable pictures be placed in a thread clearly marked NSFW. Words, typed in very small fonts, are less likely to attract the attention of anyone, of any age, that might happen to glance at the screen. Pictures grab peoples attention more than typed text. Most people, children or adults, would not even bother seeing what you are reading and pay no attention to it. A picture is different.

That is simply the way it is done around here and we don't plan on changing unless Hex decides there is a problem with it.

You also have to earn the right to piss in the sandbox around here. JC, you and CgarDan both have conducted yourself well in this thread. Lil'Woody has not.

Houston, I understand your point. This thread has nothing to do anymore with the avatar or sig-tag's. We'll get to this in a minute...

There is a difference between a lewd picture and text on a screen though in general. Since most people who would glance at a screen, or be walking by at work or home would not see the language as that would require stopping and focusing, they would see the picture.

That being said, do some of the guys use strong language, yes, do you have to, no. But, beyond that, the reason the guys continue is because this is an established community, some of us have been here a good while and believe we have developed something terrific. When new people come and are asked to change something, the response shouldn't be NO, unless the request is unreasonable to the extent of being offensive for all the politically correct reasons out there. At most it should be, okay, it's changed, but I'm just curious, why do you guys use profanity...

The reason for this, is that essentially this is a public board, but it is a community with established mores and a sort of unwritten (and written, see the TOA) code. When you go to a new country or city, and are checking things out, if a local asks you to change something simple that doesn't take away any serious right or freedom, you do it and then ask questions later respecting the culture. Same here, guys are mad because Vegas didn't treat the situation that way.

And so, the moral is, when you first arrive here, observe, interact, but most importantly, respect the culture that is here. If you end up not liking it, then you can go, no harm, no foul, no one is offended.

I logged back on last night and found out I made everyone mad 1st by putting up a photo and 2nd by asking why you wanted it down. Read the page and 1/2 of posts before I responded to see how you all reacted before I had a chance to log on. Within minutes of logging on the pic was down yet still the hateful posts keep coming. The only reason I ever looked in this section was 2 different people sent me a message telling me to look.
