The Sunnis and Shi'ites come to mind... You don't see Democrats suicide bombing the White House. :)

I'm actually finding more and more that, on the Federal at least, party lines aren't all they're made out to be. Most prominent politicians understand that they are elected to make the right decisions, not to cast a party vote or even to vote as their constituents might want them to. There has been a LOT of opposition to the Bush administration from prominent republicans in congress, for example.

There's also a lot of moderation at high levels in government. Even GWB has promoted things like the Guest Worker Program, which I consider pretty liberal.

I have an academic question, though... At one point in US History, the Republicans were liberal and the Democrats were conservative. You didn't happen to cover when this flip-flop occurred, did you? (this is what you get for letting us know you took a class )

I would have to say it was probably during the late 70's into the 80's. The Republicans didn't come around until Lincoln and the Civil War, at which point they were an ultra-liberal party from the eyes of the solid-south. Even into the 60's and civil rights, the democrats were still predominant in most of the south and opposing integration (wasn't it Arkansas where the National Guard stepped in?). Kennedy wasn't even that big on civil rights, but LBJ was able to use his death to push it through. Texas has been Republican for a very short time, electing Bush in '88 was a change.

I would probably mark the change with Carter, who gave away the canal and let Castro ship all of his criminals and insane into Florida.
    End of line.

Want to give making a useful, or remotely on topic post, a try?

So who exactly is the hate-monger here?

BTW, if your feelings are so fragile, maybe you should take up needlepoint or something.

you were the one complaining about the political forum but continue to use your very political sub-handle...if you went away today...never to return...i wouldn't miss you...you are truly pathetic...you belong at snobs or chat with the other assholes....go away!!!

The childish, whiney, thin skinned babies are the neocons. Examples provided above.

You are incorrect. You lack the ability to carry on a reasonable conversation. Interaction with you is a waste of time.

Some say you have a sharp wit. Maybe so...But it is lost in the manner you spew your crap toward anyone that might disagree with you. You seem to think the way to get your word out is to shout people down...Get a clue...That doesn't work with anybody that has a brain.

Congrats...You are the only person here I have put on ignore.

Sid...If Barry is here to have fun with other people he ought to be a little more civil. He is about as abrasive as they get. He is a smart guy with something to say...It's just the way he says it. Go back and read his posts on this thread. He can't seem to post without calling someone a name.

It's quite possible they'll get a biased judge. There's risk with any court action. I lost custody of my son in part to a judge's bias. It doesn't mean you just throw up your hands and give up before you start. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and sometimes, it's regardless of who is actually right to begin with. You fight the good fight, you do your best, and you take your lumps in stride.

I'm not saying protestors don't get biased treatment. I'm saying that they get biased treatment regardless of the VIP or what party he belongs to. Protestors have never been, nor ever will be, a welcome bunch. Local officials see them as an embarrassment and nusiance. Trouble follows protestors like flies follow shit. You can't reasonably expect protestors to be welcomed with open arms. The best you can hope for is that they'll be tolerated. I don't think this will change radically anytime soon. I'm of the opinion that public protests have very little impact on the issue at hand in modern society anyway. It's much better and more productive to get involved with a respected interest group that works with the system and has a chance of making a difference.

I can listen to Liberals speak...No problem. Barry has made a few points that made me think...It's all in his delivery of his message. There are ways to get your point across in a manner that people will listen to. He comes off like a bull in the china shop.

Nixon started the trend of keeping the protestors out of sight, and mind. Other POTUS's also followed suit. This particular admin has taken it too far. They have dramatically stepped up the degree of violations perpetrated on peaceful protestors. They'll do anything to keep dumbya in his little fantasy world bubble.

My comment about the activist judges was a joke BTW. Both sides label judges as activist, whenever they rule against them, regardless of how correct the ruling may have been.

These are all just words on a page. Nothing to get all riled up, or offended by.
If you're not being attacked personally, what exactly is the big offense?

This thread has gotten way too personal. SDVM and I disagreed on a number of points. I stated my side, he stated his. I don't believe we changed each other's mind, but I would sit down and have a beer and a 'gar with him any day of the week.

    Calm down everyone!

Hey Sid, C'mon, tell us what you really think!

By the time you got here, the beer would be gone. I don't think I could finish that many cigars though.

Funny how liberals always seem to resort to name calling once they finish spewing hatred.

I put Barry on ignore a while back since there was no point in carrying on a discussion with him as he is so filled with anger and hate it make discussion impossible. Now I have to put Sid on ignore as well since he has to resort to childish name calling. The first two people I have put on ignore in a year.

What the fuck is happening to this place? I know we're a member-moderated community, and I love that. In this case I would personally have locked this by now. It's not worth it guys...
