    Default I gotta ask

Do you think that Hollywood or even the news would have picked up on the Mel Gibson story the way it has if he had started spouting off about Christians or, say, Italians being the cause of all of the Native American troubles?

I personally think it would have been a non-event.

The reasoning is kind of supported by the recent threads on this board. Cuss and swear about Christians and several jump on the bandwagon stating that they are ruining the country or simply show "tolerance and understanding" for such statements, but make a comment about Jews being good businessmen and immediately the accusations of bigotry start flying.

Don't want to stir the pot, just curious about your perceptions of "tolerance" in general. Are we truly a tolerant society or are we selectively tolerant?

Maybe the Jews would be in an uproar.

It seems it's okay to make fun of yourself and your background, you just can't make fun of others' backgrounds.

You may be able to make fun of majorities, but not minorities, too. I'm not sure of the "ruling" on that.

It's not far off from sexual harassment. A female employee usually has carte blanc, while male employees have to walk on eggshells.

I think they are making a big deal about Mel Gibson because he has gotten so much crap about being an Anti-Semite since he made that Jesus movie.
    End of line.

I think the rule is you got to make fun of everyone, if your going to target a minority besides your own.

Watch Carlos Mencia or South Park?

White people get openly made fun of by everybody and it seems acceptable. I can say honkey and cracker all day long and no one will care. As I type this I'm thinking about how much everyone would freak out if I threw in a couple of other words (for other groups), even for example's sake.

Comedy Cental also wouldn't show South Park's Mohammed, but 2 seconds later in the same episode they have a picture of Jesus and George Bush all taking a shit on each other.
    End of line.

Comedy hasn't been the same since The Kids in the Hall went off the air.
    End of line.
