Hello all! Quick question as a first time poster, but long time lurker. I have a 120 capacity humidor, I use a digital Hygrometer. I have discrepencies with my temp/humidity and wanted to make sure where I should put my best cigars and if I can do anything to change the tem/humidity.

Top tray reads 70-75 degrees and 68-70 Humidity. Varies throughout the day.

Lower level far right separator (farthest away from Humidification system) reads 69-75 degrees and 63-68 Humidity (this is where I put my ISOMs).

Last reading I saw this morning was 73 Degrees and 63 Humidity. I just added more 50/50 Solution since it's been 3-4 months since I replaced the solution.

So, do you guys think this is fine, or I need to change something or what?

BPP I did use search, but there are many conflicting answers. Everyone says use beads, I may do that, but would prefer to use up my 50/50 supply first before switching.

People say if Humidity is low 60-65 it could justify to have Temp. @ 70-75. The lower the humidty, the higher the temp may be, not exceeding 75 degrees of course. I may be wrong.

Is there another reason other than preventing cigar beetles or mold from appearing when temperature exceeds 70 degrees?

I just smoked a Romeo Y Julieta ISOM this afternoon, and it was great. But, if you feel I need it lower than 70 degrees, then I'll see what I can do.

if christian eiroa,who runs caribe (camacho,baccarat) says 62-65rh...that's good enough for me....70-70 was more for mid-90's when connecticut was the most popular wrapper....with most (all) of the wrappers and filler that are being used today...the lower rh is mo' betta'...

Go with BPP on this one, get the beads and forget about the solution. I myself just had gotten a bottle of solution a few weeks ago to use in a tupperdor but after experiencing how big a pain it is I just ordered the 65% beads, that way you don't have to do anything except add distilled water when too many beads turn white.

The beads are the BEST way to keep your RH at the optimum level(60-65%).

BPP, I thought you were talking about Temperature. My RH ranges from 63-68%. It only goes up to 70% in my top tray, since I have a glass top Humidor. My best cigars (ISOMs) are in the bottome, and it always reads 63% consistently. I just wanted to make sure my RH is good below 65%, while my temperature reads 73 degrees.

If all I have to worry about is keeping my RH under 70, then I have no issues, it's the temperature that just fluctuates from 60-75 Degrees. Thanks for the help, will order those beads.

Temp changes that big can be bad for your smokes if they happen quickly as your cigars expand and contract to the heat as well as humidity. If its through the corse of a day, I wouldn't worry about it but it would be better to try and place it in a cabinet near the ground where temps don't change much throughout the day. I do know that will defeat the purpose of the glass top, but thats only if you want primo conditions.

Will definitely like to join some locals in a herf. Have been slowly getting some of my poker buddies into smoking cigars. It's hard when most of them prefer cigarettes. Plus, it's hard to enjoy a good stick when most of your friends finish their cigarettes in less than 5 or so minutes.

Cool, well I'm down to meet up for a smoke. Do you have a locak B&M/store that you frequent?

Nothing locally. They are all too pricey. I normally just buy boxes online. And, my GF's parents frequent St. Maartin and they know the owner of the cigar shop there. So, they get good deals on ISOMs. So, they try to get me a box every time they go (twice a year).

I only smoke whenever I can smoke with someone, special occasions, or when I just want to sit outside the patio and relax. The rest of the time I just smoke Ascots and AF Cubanitos with friends (who only smoke cigarettes).

So, if you would like to smoke sometime, we should set something up. Do you know anyone else locally you smoke with from the boards?
