    Default Neighbors - not enemies

Like I've said before, I'm a Democrat. Not one of those hippie liberals, though they have their place. Several of my close friends are Republicans. One of them is an elderly retired AF Colonel (think Air Force One). Anyway, I'm grousing to him one day about the state of the nation after the last election and how we have a bunch of idiot voters, blah, blah, blah. He told me not to give up hope, that he has seen these swings before. Peolple get tired of how things are going and give the other side a shot at things once in a while. He said, "We (speaking of the Republican Party) will screw things up just like you guys did. It always happens with power. You'll see. The Democrats will get it back someday."
What's the point of this little story? Dialogue. I am able to talk to these people about politics because we know and trust each other. However, when I run a across someone who is instantly combative from either party my logic center seems to shut down. I get so angry that a few weeks ago I wanted to stick a fork in a coworker who was screaming at me, "All Democrats are liberals."
A few questions for you right-wingers: Do you honestly think there are no homo Republicans? Do you really think Rep. daughters don't get abortions? ...food stamps and assisted housing? My ex-wife's family were all republicans. My brother-in-law was a bisexual drug dealer who constantly bashed Bill Clinton's morals. I never understood that. What I do understand is that Republicans don't want to pay their share of taxes or pay their employees a fair wage. "I want all the benefits at no cost to me."
It's beginning to look like the Colonel was right. We may get it back. A fine mess it'll be in... as always.

The answer to all the questions above is No. I do not believe Republicans or their party are perfect or even close to it. Actually, I feel the Republicans have abandoned me on the immigration and border patrol issues so I have less in common with them than I used to. I still defend them but I don't feel as strongly about them as I used to.

    Good post.

My grandmother was a Democrat party activist. The kind that gets invited to inagurations. When I was about 9 or 10, I asked her what was the difference between a Dem. and a Republican. She looked at me very seriously and responded, "They're all thieves. When Republicans steal they put it in their own pockets; when Democrats steal, they spread it around. That why I'm a Democrat."

Do draft dodgers have reunions? And if so what do they talk about?

That quote is great, but it only scratches the surface.

The repug party of today only serves it's more radical members. The rest are just too ignorant to see how screwed up the neocons are, and continue to vote for them out of imaginary fears perpetuated by the party leaders. Talk about a party full of chickenshits afraid of their own shadows. Look out, there's a terrorist lurking about in your neighborhood grocery store!

Remember 9/11...Those guys lurked here in the US for a period of time...Probably went to a grocery store once or twice. In my opinion there are more willing to take their place and are already here due to mistakes committed form both sides.

Putting your head in the sand and forgetting all that makes no sense. Do you think Bin Laden is just talking for the hell of it. He pulled it off once and is perfectly able to do it again.

Lurking in a grocery store as a front...Entirely possible. Organized crime has set up fronts for years. The truth is anything is possible with money and planning.

Oh, I remember 9/11 just fine. I don't, however, need the damn neocons invoking it constantly, all the while doing nothing substantive to prevent further attacks. They use it to keep the simple-minded from seeing how they've really screwed up this Country.
And, yes the terrorists lurked in the US for a period, with the knowledge of some "intelligence" groups and the dumbya admin who chose to ignore them. Has the repug controlled Government done ANYTHING to really make sure attacks are less likely? I don't think so, and yet I refuse to walk around afraid to live my life because of a constant barrage of bullshit from the dumbya crowd.
When did the American People become such fucking pussies? Bin Laden is laughing his ass off at us right now. If we continue to roll over and let the idiots in Washington screw things up, he will have accomplished everything he set out to when he attacked us. And, he used the dim-witted dumbya as an ally.

“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.”

I don't know how to take this from you. This is one time that you have hit a nerve with me. Usually I just read the shit you post and laugh and feel sorry for you because your world is nothing but Republicans and Democrats....

Let me tell you a little story about some of the things that went on in the Precinct in which I worked and the surrounding Precincts on Sept 11, 2001 (I refuse to use "9/11"... I think it makes it seem less important). Jackson Heights, NY is one of the most densly populated areas in the US of people of Middle Eastern decent. This neighborhood bleeds over into Astoria and Long Island City where there is a Mosgue within walking distance of everywhere.

On Sept 10, 2001 a young woman walked into the local "Bodega" and asked for a pack of cigarettes. Along with the cigarettes came a book of matches. The young woman put the matches in her purse and forgot about them. On Sept 11, this same woman took the matches out of her purse and noticed a drawing on the one side of the flap. This drawing was of the Twin Towers with a plane and some writing on the bottom. The woman immediately called 911 and a good friend of mine responded. The took her and her family to the Precinct (she went willingly) and called the FBI. The woman was notified that if this was a hoax she would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. She never changed her story. The FBI did a search warrant of the location... what the did find was a "Wedding Invitation" with the date Sept 11, 2001. Nobody was arrested, they were interviewed and released. The bodega went on with business as usual. I did get a Civilian Complaint for some things that I did following the re-opening, but that is for another story. I did exchange word with a young man, I forget his name. He did have a tattoo of a tear drop near his eye. He told me he was from Yemen while he was yelling at me (I was waiting for him to hit me). A few weeks ago a friend called me and asked me if I recognized the name "John Doe" (I won't mention the name). I said no. He then asked me if I remember the kid with the tear drop tattoo from the bodega... I said, "Holy shit, yeah"... He then begins to tell me how he was arrested, in Astoria, with a soft pellet rifle, shooting at the window of the Army Recruiting office....

Is the next terrorist the same person who is helping you in the local grocery store ?.... He could very well be
I'm not big on doing reviews, tobacco doesn't taste like "cocoa" or "nutty" or "mocha" to me, it tastes like freakin' TOBACCO. I know what I like and I really don't care what other people think of other cigars. I've never read a review and said to myself "Wow, that sounds like a cigar I'd like to try!"

They do seem to have a propensity for having lesbian daughters. The Cheneys and Gingriches come to mind. I wonder what's up with that?
