    Default how about this gym??...

ALBANY, N.Y. -- You could forgive a guy for grunting while lifting 500 pounds -- unless you're the owners of a place called Planet Fitness.

It turns out that grunting isn't allowed in their universe.

Corrections officer Albert Argibay learned that the hard way this week. He was hoisting 500 pounds on a machine at the Wappingers Falls, N.Y., gym when the manager said he grunted -- in violation of the Planet Fitness rules.

Argibay said whether or not he grunted is "open to interpretation." What's crystal clear is that police were called to escort him out after the manager came over and there was an argument.

The gym said they don't allow grunting because it conflicts with the non-intimidating atmosphere they strive for.

The gym, which refers to itself as the judge-free zone, has the following statement on its Web site:

Planet Fitness strives to promote health in a respectful atmosphere. For over a decade, Planet Fitness has gone to great lengths to provide its members with a friendly space to work out. We call it the Judgment Free Zone. We discourage weight dropping and obnoxious grunting so you can focus on your own workout and not the person next to you.

Yeah, sounds more like one of those womens gyms that doesnt allow men to join so the women wont feel insecure about working out with men looking at them. Dont know why a guy lifting 500lbs would join a gym like that in the first place.

Yeah that's pretty fucked up. The guy's in the wrong line of work - he should be sorting m&ms or something.

My main issue is idiots who don't re-rack their shit, put their plates back up, etc.

There's guys who grunt; some really big, juiced guys who make noise. I'd bet that if they didn't, they'd shit their colon instead. But, even these 'roid guys will stop in the middle of what they're doing to help a new member.

Our gym owner's solution was to buy another gym and make it women only. But, it turned out that it made no difference. So, they're both co-ed now. People who want to workout, will. Even if they're overweight, pear-shaped blimps. Those who want an excuse to stay out of the gym will use whatever.

I used to belong to Planet Fitness. They had a gym close by my house, one close by law school and one by were I worked in law school. Really convenient. We could wear tanktops but what they did have was this siren like alarm and a blue spinning light on the wall, kinda like what an old school police light looked like.
Anyway, if you dropped a weight or grunted they would sound the alarm and, it was loud, causing everyone to stop and see what's going on.
Judgment free zone my ass. By doing the alarm thing they are judging. They attracted more attention to what was going on then the people working out.
They sounded the alarm on me once. I dropped a weight, not to be cool or anything, I was in the process of pulling my shoulder and trap and dropped the bar behind me. Thing is I was on a smith machine so the bar just dropped about two feet until it was caught on the rubber stoppers. When the alarm went off I was bullshit and let the kid at the desk know it.
