I know people, my sister included, who live for that shit. Personally, I take pride in getting all my "Mall" shopping done before Christmas. I have waiting, lines, ignorant people, and dubasses. All of which surface the friday after Thanksgiving.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done." -unknown

My wife and I did that ONCE, on whim. Got up early and headed out to see what kind of deals could be had. At Target, the people were so fucking rude, it was unbelievable. One lady got trampled, although not too badly, I saw here get back up. People RUNNING through the store with shopping carts. Bumping, jostling, pushing, shoving. Nuts, just nuts.

Please educate an ignorant Canadian. What exactly is Black Friday? Google and Wikipedia were not much help.

The Day after Thanksgiving. It is always a friday, because Thanksgiving is always on Thursday. Most, if not all, retail stores, malls, etc. have big sales on Friday because almost everyone has the day off and are with family and can go Christmas shopping.

(Does Canada do Thanksgiving?) I thought it was an American Holiday but I can see how this could be a spill-over event seeing when the land was "found" by whitey there wasn't a division between the US and Canada, or an US and Canada for that matter.

So then why is it called Black Friday?

Yes, we have thanksgiving in Canada, however we celebrate it in October.

Lots of retailers make their profits for the entire year at Xmas. It's when many retailers find themselves out of the red and into the black.

I always make sure I don't need to go to any stores on Black Friday. I made the mistake of going to Best Buy one year. They had some good deals and I was working Thursday night anyway. After work, I figured I would go stand in line with the rest of the waterheads and wait until it opened. Never again! Folks were hiding in bushes and waiting in cars for the doors to open. Once the doors opened, all the fucktards made a run for it totally ignoring the folks in line.

I don't think you would have that problem at a B&M. Hell, it would be a great way for us guys to get away while our crazy-ass wives went and did their thing at the malls. Dan, you may be on to something.

While most of my family can't comprehend this concept, my wife and I don't even use credit cards. We have one for emergencies(when traveling) with $0 balance. If we can't pay cash for it we don't need it.

    Black Friday (shopping)
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
    Jump to: navigation, search
Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving in the United States, is historically one of the busiest retail shopping days of the year. Many consider it the "official" beginning to the holiday season. Most retailers will open very early and usually provide massive discounts on their products.

Although Black Friday is typically the busiest shopping day of the year in terms of customer traffic, it is not typically the day with the highest sales volume. That is usually either Christmas Eve, the last Saturday before Christmas, or Boxing Day.[1]

I am with Kevin the whole shopping and gift thing has been blown out of proportion. My sister has two children and they're only children so yes they're a tad spoiled. I buy wine and some cigars for some close friends, but other then that not too much. We used to do bake goods gifts. We have the baking Saturday we would bake all day long..OMG by the end of the day we want to kill each other As for Black Friday a few years back we began making it a tradition to see what all the hype was about. It's now called girls day out and we each pick out one gift and we have lunch. I honestly have been to the Mall when it was busier. Just do what makes you happy and the holidays are sure to be fun!
