Thread: Fog Help Needed!!!!

    Default Fog Help Needed!!!!

I need a FOG to review a stick for me and give me their honest in depth opinion. It will be done slightly similar to the Review These pass going on but I didn't want to get caught up in the middle of it.

I'll be sending the stick off on Monday the 27th to the first person that responds to me in this thread.

Please, please, please only respond if you feel you really know your stuff and can give a Newb a solid review by the 14th of December, sooner if possible.

Thank you in advance for the help.

I can try to help, but don't really consider myself a FOG.

What do YOU think of them? What kind of cigar does the reciever of the gift prefer? Cigar smoking is pretty subjective. One man's pleasure is another man's poison. Also, occasional or recreational smokers are going to generally like a milder flavor profile than most FOG's with a lot of cigars who smoke a couple daily. I only smoke a couple a week, but I have an adventurous palate and tend to prefer medium bodied cigars. I also like the occasional mild and full bodied smokes too though. I guess what I'm saying is that a good honest review is priceless, but don't forget to factor in individual preference.

I appreciate the offer but I was looking for someone that has been smoking for quite a long while and has a vast amount of experience across the board with cigars. No hard feelings or anything.

I'm really looking for someone like CigarSarge, CigarDan, BPP, CoventryCat, etc.

    Anybody... Bueller... Bueller... Bueller.

I know what my opinion is of the stick but I really want to hear a seasoned Veterans .02

Kenyth is a seasoned veteran who has probably done more reviews on this board than anyone else. Post count means nothing when it comes to this sort of thing. It's all about flavor recognition and the ability to convey the message. Kenyth is more than capable of handling this.

Just did a quick sweep and in the first 10 pages of the review forum and Kenyth did 27 reviews.

nhcigarfan with over 2 times the post = 0

Edit - I checked for the other guys - and this isn't to call them out or anything because I never do reviews and I'm not going to start, not my thing, but rather to support Kenyth a bit more:

    Sarge - 0
    BPP - 3
    CC - 1
    CDan - 13

So out of the above list cdan wins but is still less than 1/2 of Kenyth.

OK with Basil, NHCigar, and GGiese speaking up... I'll need Kenyth's address.

I read from recent first and didn't see a lot of review type stuff... but thank you both for doing better digging.... my basis wasn't post count either.

    No bother.

Thanks for the vote of confidence guys!

I had no idea I flap my gums so much reviewing cigars!

I'll be happy to smoke it if he'd like me to. On the other hand, if he's more comfortable with someone else, that's fine by me too.

Stick will go out Monday, I don't want it stuck in a warehouse or something over the holidays.

I dunno Ted, I think most people thought you were serious.

You're a mean prick an' all.....

Getting back on topic, I'm not big on doing reviews, tobacco doesn't taste like "cocoa" or "nutty" or "mocha" to me, it tastes like freakin' TOBACCO. I know what I like and I really don't care what other people think of other cigars. I've never read a review and said to myself "Wow, that sounds like a cigar I'd like to try!"

CC makes a great point... What I like is not necessarily what you will like. What I taste is not necessarily what you'll taste. One person will say they pick up the hints of "Madagascar Vanilla" while I most likely (most probably) will not.

About the best I can do for you is to relate to you my smoking experience with the cigar is if it's mild, medium or full bodied - and mild, medium or full strength. I have tasted different "flavors" in cigars - and best try to equate it to something I've tasted before. But, to be honest, I hardly ever have sucked on a piece of leather (except maybe back in my toddler years many moons ago) so it's sometimes hard to pull the leather taste out of the cigar...

Perceived tastes of things we have never actually tasted are more perceptions of tastes through odor. Most of what we "taste" is actually received through our sense of smell. I have never eaten a piece of leather, but I have smelled the aroma of leather, and if something is strong enough, like a woman wearing too much perfume, you can perceive an aftertaste. Smoking a cigar is much like tasting a wine. The "flavors" are probably things you never tasted. but have perceived what the taste might be, and most of the time they are definite and repeatable. Much of the "flavor" of the wine, or the cigar, will come from its aroma. So while it is true that I never actually tasted leather, I have a perceived taste, and like wood or grass, I would recognize that perceived taste as pleasant or unpleasant if someone mentioned it. So although two people may not agree that the "taste" of leather is pleasant or unpleasant, the "flavor" is certainly definable.

I remember when I was younger we did an experiment in school. We were all blindfolded and instructed to pinch our nose shut while we tasted a variety of common foods. I don't remember much of what we had, but one of the things was an orange. No one could identify it at first, but it was quite evident as soon as we were able to smell it.
