I've only tried 2 different types

J&B and Chivas Regal 12 yr

Chivas Regal was the better of the two I thought. J&B seems more bitter.

Just opened a bottle of Glenkinchie 10 that my wife got me for my birthday.... good stuff. My first 'real' single malt.

Just finished my bottle of 18 year Glenfiddich.

Going to the store tomorrow to pickup either the Lagavulin or the Laphroaig.

I picked up another 4 bottles of Laphroaig yesterday. Not quite as nice as the Lagavulin but a local store had a great deal on it.

Made it by the shop today and they were out of both the Laphroaig and the Lagavulin

But I did find a nice bottle of The Macallan Cask Strength.

Wow what a great taste!! Seems to be fuller in taste than the Glenfiddich 18 year I had last.

I enjoy these neat when I'm out for a drink:

    Lagavulin
    Oban
    Auchentoshan

    But the go-to is Laphroaig

I also enjoy Glenlivet French Oak is nice as well.

I enjoy The MaCallan 12yr but have not seen the "Cask Strength" Is it higher proof, less?

    hi DeeDubya

the 12 year MacAllan is 86 proof

the cask strength is 116 proof, straight from the cask, non filtered and non-diluted

It packs quite a bit more punch and flavor, especially if you add a splash of water to open it up a bit

if you drink it neat, a little bit goes quite a long way!
