I've had a few of these in the past, and none of them impressed me. I would bet that the tobacco blend is to blame, a poor blend just doesn't have any flavor, or worse, has a nasty flavor. The only flavor I got from Cuba Aliados was ashy, burnt flavors.

I understand some makers will cook the wrapper tobacco to get a very dark hue of maduro; oscuro. Some even add dyes.

I smoked a Partagas black label, that had the most veining I've ever seen on a cigar. It burned pretty straight, as I remember. (Note to self, pick out your own, don't just take the one the guy at the B&M hands you)

Got a fiver of CA Candelas some time ago. I like these fairly well. A little mild, but a nice smoke IMHO.

You might try dry boxing several days before smoking the next one?

What does this mean? Just keeping them in the box, outside of the humi?
