Guess I should just button it up. Apparantly you gotta know somebody to post an opinion around here, or even agree with a FOG.

But I don't think I'm gonna just yet...

Not to toot my own horn so to speak, but before I joined any board, I read a lot. I wasn't 18 and felt it wouldn't be in good taste to register before I could legally purchase cigars. That does not mean I didn't read.

I know both of them have quality beads, and are also of good character because I have read many posts by both of them. The reason I chose Cigarmony is because I can save on shipping costs by making a larger purchase from one vendor rather than multiple purchases. Aside from that single fact I feel both of them would be a toss up from what I have read.

And onto the Cohibas now. How would they compare in strength to one of the Brazilias? they are pretty much my favorite right now.

Also...I realized I need a new cutter pretty bad tonight. I think mine is starting to get dull because it completely dominated the Wrapper of my CAO gold. The good news was I smoked an AF Rothschild instead.

until you get a new cutter in, try using an Xacto (sp?) knife. i had to use one at work the other day to cut a cigar because I forgot my cutter. lucky enough, our main tool is an xacto knife. try this or just a plain old razor blade. as far as cutters go, i just bought some cigar scissors from cubancrafters.com. $20, triple blade. they work great. and since my word doesn't mean jack around here, SmokinDVM can reassure you of their quality. now i'm not telling you to go buy anything, just telling you what i got.

I'm not big on doing reviews, tobacco doesn't taste like "cocoa" or "nutty" or "mocha" to me, it tastes like freakin' TOBACCO. I know what I like and I really don't care what other people think of other cigars. I've never read a review and said to myself "Wow, that sounds like a cigar I'd like to try!"

Tommy, ya gotta understand ChefChris, he's being a wiseass (like me) not a whining dickhead, smartass (like Scotty).

Like Chris posted, I have one of the CubanCrafters triple blade cutters. Great cutter, in my personal experience. Not a cutter to be carried around though, but great for at home use.

    Hey Chris,
I don't think using me as a reference will be any help. There's only a couple of members whose opinions count on this bb, and I ain't one of 'em.

I like it when people don't get angry.

I also like Cohibas, and I'm a newb. I, therefore, don't think they're so very newb inappropriate. However, I've only smoked the regular line, not the XV or the Cohiba Black, so I can't vouch for two thirds of that set.

I have a question about Xicars. Everyone seems to love them. I use a Zino cutter. It's a double Guillotine cutter, doesn't really require maintenance, fits in any pocket and has yet to give me a bad cut. I know guys who have had theirs for years. Googling reveals the price is very similar to the Xicar.

That being said, I hear nothing about them on here. Do you guys just not like them, or have you not tried them, or is the Xicar just so amazing that it's impossible not to fall in love with them instantly?

Personally, I like it because it's simple and looks like a cheap cutter, so people don't instantly go, "Ooh, shiny!" when I use it.

I have a zino cutter. I don't like it as much as my xikar. It definitely didn't stay sharp for long, and just felt too small for my hands.

When I was in search of my first Xikar - I heard from a friend of my neighbor's cousin that Xikar cutters are very nice. I don't know the guy very well, but I hear he smokes cigars on a fairly regular basis (I think - at least that's what I've heard). Through that grapevine, I heard it didn't matter where you got the Xikar from, whether it was cheap or not, the cutter was nice. And I also read about the Xikar on the BB's, so I think I know they're a good cutter.

But - actually - I guess that depends. I bought one of the "cheapie" Xikar's on a special package deal at CigarBid (essentially included free with the purchase of some Graycliff's). I dropped it about a week after I bought it and the spring broke. Thankfully there's a lifetime guarantee, so I sent it back in for a replacement. I got the "new" cutter and cut my first cigar with it - the spring broke. It's back with the manufacturer again...

In the mean time - I bought one of the Cohiba gift packs last year at around X-mas - with the Xikar cutter. That cutter has not given me one bit of problem, and it is as sharp as the day I pulled it from that pack. I can only assume they make a different cutter for those packs - there's no comparison.

I hate the single blade cutters - they're too cheap and shred the cigar too badly. Sometimes free or absolutely cheap is not the way to go... Cutting a cigar with an Xacto knife accomplishes the mission. I've tried this method - and choose to use other more productive methods. I suppose it works - but it's a tad too labor intensive and requires a very sharp blade to keep from shredding the cigar.

As far as the Cohiba's - they're a nice cigar but pretty well overpriced. I personally like the XV's better than the Red Dots (standard line) and regularly smoke XV's when I get the urge. I have yet to try the Cohiba Black, but most that have smoked them tell me it's pretty disappointing. I would give you my impression of the cigar, but it would really require me to smoke about five or so to get a feel for what that cigar is really about (one just doesn't do it - you really have to smoke at least 5 or so to get a good handle on the profile of the cigar).

I don't know that I would call the Cohiba's "full" bodied. They are definitely medium to medium full. Certainly up the scale on flavor, no doubt - but definitely not a "kick you in your ass" cigar like the La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero's. As a matter of fact - to me, the Reo and Vibe seem to be more full bodied than the Cohiba's. And for essentially the same money - the Opus X and Diamond Crown Maximus are more fuller bodied and "spicier" than the Cohiba's.

    I hope that helps...

I just want to say that Newbies giving advice to Newbies about ISOM's or Domestic Cigars is a little funny.

Here is something that I noticed...

Another thing i have read is that Cohiba's are best aged as you will get a "grassy" taste if smoked to young. If you let them age, as with anything, it mellows and blends. I, cannot speak on this for myself, but read this from a trusted BOTL.

Plus, for the price, you could spread your money around alot better.

    just my opinion.
Now, there is nothing wrong with people offering their opionion. However, Chefchris you are talking about "young" and "grassy" and ISOM's. Meanwhile, unless I missed something, Pwnstar590 was talking about Cohiba's from his local B&M and unless he's in Canada, which it says "near the windy city" in his profile so I would say near he's near Chicago, that would mean that he's referring to the Domestic Cohiba's. Domestic and ISOM's are two completely different ballgames. You are comparing apples and oranges.

Again, I'm not trying to slam anyone. Just please, when you are offering advise, please be aware of what you are talking about. Ashauler read "you might be a little fresh for cohibas" thinking that you had experience with them. Then you say "I personally have not smoked one". Which raises a large flag in my mind. Please, just be careful when you are replying to posts. This is not just towards Chefchris, but towards all new people to cigar smoking.

I was not referring to ISOM's. All i said was that I had two of them, which remained unsmoked. I've read up on the domestics. Anyone can read that, or that they are fuller in body.

I really think there's too much of a "big deal" being made out of essentially nothing here.

Yes, we've seen blowhards and egomanicas post extremely misleading posts then we find out they were completely talking out of their ass, Oblik and SFG75 were FAMOUS for this and there have been others as well.

Once again, I don't see ChefChris doing this at all because he never misled anyone and when asked, he immediately qualified his statements acknowledging when he had no first hand experience or whatever.

ChefChris is NOT anywhere near the same league as shit like Oblik and SFG75 so....
