One of my cigar smoking buddies came up with this idea. He had a Day After party on New Years, kind of a wind-down from the festivities of the prior evening.
Well, it looks like about half the expected crowd had too much booze as they never showed up. Now me, I smoked a lot on NYE but abstained. So I showed up and he has a kick-ass back porch, fully covered, cable TV, and lots of comfortable chairs and even one recliner.
So we herfed it up, drank bloody marys, chowed down on all the food eveyone brought, and watched football. Now this being SE Texas, the food was mighty spicy (we have a few Louisiana expats in our group), and the bloody marys were damn spicy, so I switched to cool, cool beer in the late afternoon. Damnation, we had crawfish linguine with a spicy sauce, some kind of bean/rice/ham dish that had lots of habaneros in it, and lots of jalapeno cornbread.
Thankfully, Wisconsin beat the Razorbacks. Yep, I'm just about the only Badgers fan in Houston (but I also hate the Texans, being a Texas A&M fan, which also makes me a pariah, but I don't give a wet rats fart). Unfortunately, we then got to watch USC whomp all over Michigan. The only college team I hate more than the Texas is USC.
But anyway, we had a great time. I think next year we should continue the tradition! Maybe I'll host next year.
