True, these cigars have had a roller coaster ride ever since we introduced them in the late 1990's.
But despite all of the mixed reviews, they've held their own pretty well. As I've described them in our catalog, "if you smoke a lot of cigars and low price is key, try Caridad." At 39¢ a stick, it doesn't get much lower than this, and probably never will again (we can only hope).
So, let's look at the glass half-full. The blend is all Dominican-grown long-filler and binder dressed in a silky U.S. Connecticut wrapper. My Caridad experience has actually been a relatively positive one. The smoke was always mild, woody in flavor, and aromatic. As everyday cigars go, sure, you could do better, but at this price they're well worth a shot and will definitely give your budget some extra headroom.
Remember, "Caridad" means "charity" in Spanish, so please find a place in your heart and your humidor for these discontinued cigars. Order them for washing down with your morning coffee or end of the day beer.
Order them for fending-off cigar grubbers. Order them for kindling, whatever. If you can accept the fact that not every cigar can be a Macanudo, you may find these Caridads to be a lot better than you expected.
