Default Cigars to age for Value??

Ok, Ok.....And I did use the search.

What do you guys think about maybe buying boxes of limited cigars and aging them for 5-10 years, and selling them then. If you think about it they are not making any more of these, and the cost for upkeep, and maintenance costs are virtually zero. How can you go wrong?(unless you smoke them) It is just an idea I had.

If it is not a bad idea, what brands, types would you think could work??

No offense, but smoking to me is a hobby. If say in 10 years I am sitting on a stack of smokes that are excellent, and may be worth more than I paid for them, I would be more inclined to gift them to friends that I know will enjoy them, or at most sell them for what I paid for them.

It would also be a tough sell because unless it was stored in very tightly controlled conditions (and you can prove it), it is basically worthless. The longer (generally) that you age a cigar, the more the conditions that it was stored in start to play a factor.

I am not collecting cigars to profit.

    Lame dude ,really lame.

I have ten year old cigars in my stash. It's called a stash because it is all for smoking and not for (poser) collecting.

I doubt I could ever sell any cigars for a profit but I will glady trade and gift them away.
The older I get ,the better I was

I'll be honest - the idea has occured to me. But I decided it was a flawed business plan, because I'd be in there smoking up the profits. That and people generally aren't all that willing to pay a premium for aged domestics. If you could lay in some premium Habanos, maybe.

Also, I read somewhere that a good portfolio can double itself (grow 100%) in like 9 years. Suppose you buy a box of Cuban premiums for $300. Can you sell them for $600 when they're nine years old? Probably. But who knows? Maybe Cubans are legal by then and after the initial rush, production meets demand and the prices aren't what they used to be?

You might be able to pull this off. Problem is, you'll need to lay down some serious capital to start up with if you hope to make any appreciable profits down the road. You'll face dangers from gov't seizures (if they're Cubans, which they'd almost have to be), beetle dangers (you'll HAVE to freeze), and all sorts of other things that can go wrong.

Just a lot of negatives. Better to buy a box, tell yourself you're going to age it for 5 years, then smoke everything after 18 months. That's what I do.

Hell, there goes that stupid idea. I should not have had those after dinner drinks. Makes me think a lil funny sometimes.
