Apparently there are now two bills in the legislature HB9 and SB 368 that would ban smoking in Texas basically everywhere. THe only exemptions as of now would be outdoor patios, homes, private or semi-private nursing home rooms, designated hotel rooms--with restrictions and in private clubs WITHOUT employees such as fraternal halls. In other words cigar stores would become non smoking.
Call or write to your state representative and sentaor. If you do not know who represents you go to http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/ and put in your address and it will give you the names and phone numbers of your representatives.
I would also suggest calling the Governor's office.
The Dallas Morning News editorialized in favor of this today since the Texas Restaurant Association has come out in favor of it. (They say it is to protect their workers...the reality is for example Dallas restaurants suffer under a local ban while Addison and surrounding communities thrive.
