Do all cigars start out harsh?

Sorry, I tried to search, but couldn't find anything... I'm just wondering, is it an aging thing, or do all cigars start out a bit harsh, and then mellow? I've noticed it with all the cigars I've smoked so far (which isn't that many) and in many of the reviews. I'm just curious if this is common, and if so, any guesses or actual knowledge as to why. it probably has more to do with your lighting technique, I have noticed when i use bad lighters I can taste the aftermath of the fuel...but thats jsut my .02

Every cigar is different. Even ones from the same box.

Absoutely not. Every cigar is different for one thing. Second, try lighting with matches, it results in a slower burn and reduces the harshness of the first few puffs for me. Try that and see if you have the same result.

You can also use the purging technique for the initial light. It really tones down the cigar right away.
