Hygrometer is messed up...

I have 2 analog hygrometers. One came with my humidor the other is a very cheap canadian tire one. I did the salt test on them for 48+ hours because the readings were messed up and one was 3% above 75% and the other was 4% below. Now they are both in my humidor and one reads 65% (the one that came with my humidor) and the other cheaper one is reading 49%! What the hell is going on?? Can I trust the salt test when they are so differet from one another in the humidor? I'm confused...

Sounds like your problem right there. You may want to invest in a quality digital one.

I bought a westernhumidor Caliber lll for $25 @ my local b&m and the instructions say DO NOT do a "salt test" on these units ! So, Im just going to trust it. I did use it to "calibrate" my analog hygrometer but notice that the analog one always reads something other than what the digital reads...no matter how many times i adjust it to the digital, which drove me crazy the 1st few times I reset it. Now I just figured it's not worth it. They are too unreliable to use but, they do look great in the spot made for them in my humidor. I know they sell "better" analog units but, these are not the ones included with most humidors sold today.

I do plan on getting some quality digital hygrometers, plus I have some beads comming so I'll just trust those.

My analog hygrometer was close to being accurate when I first got it but now has deviated quite a bit after 2 months. Right now it says my humidor is at 45%. Even $200 certified analog hygrometers have a deviation of +/-3%. The cheapest digital will likely be as or more accurate.

If you use beads, your hygrometers don't have to be accurate. When you notice them dropping, add water.

Thats what I figured. From doing some reading I will put my trust in the beads. And I will finally get them Sunday!

I always doubted my hygrometer (digital).
Then I got the 65% heartfelt beads.
My hygrometer now always reads 65 or 66 %.

There should be some kind of program on the board where everytime the word "hygrometer" is in the title of a new thread, the system automatically applies this message.
