Let's see... Part 1 - my day was great. Smoked a couple of cigars - bought a few of the Partagas 160s a while back and tried the first one today. Was a pretty nice smoke. I'll probably get a few more. Then I took the car out for a little spin - about 75 and sunny here today, so it was a nice day for a ride. This evening I sat outside and enjoyed a Cubano Limitado Fonseca.

    Part 2 - the week...

The week has been ok. Got the Shelby out of storage an Saturday. On the way back home I stopped by the airport and pulled the plane out of the hanger for the first time in several months and spun the engine up for a while. Didn't take off, though. Haven't really flown in about a year. Don't know why I keep that ship. I used it to visit relatives in the past, but they all passed away and avgas is just too expensive to justify since I can fly standby wherever I want. Actually got to cut the grass this week, too.

    Part 3 - favorite food

Just about anything but sushi. Meals were always more about family interaction when I was growing up, so the food is usually secondary to the situation or the people I'm with.

    Thanks for asking.

The post about the plane got me to remembering some photos I had taken over the rockies in the fall when the Aspen were just starting to turn. You can see by the photos that we were at 17,400 feet and had to use O2. If you've never seen the Aspen change in the Rockies you are missing something beautiful. These shots were taken on a trip to see a friend in Delta, CO. It was probably about a week before the colors hit their peak.

I believe the first 2 photos were over Dillon, CO. The 3rd one was not the best, but you can start to see the Aspen. The 4th is of the Altimeter at 17,400 when we started circling for the photos, the 5th is me with the Oxygen Cannula and the rest are of the Aspen and the snow covered peaks over the Continental Divide.

I never realized there were so many bugs at 17,000 feet until I looked at some of those pictures through the windscreen.

Cool pics, but you know Shelby, you wouldn't have that reflection problem in the pictures if you'd roll the damn window down...sheesh!

You gotta watch out when you open the windows... you never know what will happen.

When I had the flight club a couple of members came in and rented a plane for a couple of hours. They came back covered with white dust and asked for some cleaning supplies to clean out the cockpit. Come to find out, they had taken one of the guys Grandfather's ashes and were going to spread them over an area in the mountains that his Granddad loved. Well, they opened the window and tried to scatter the ashes. The negative pressure outside the plane blew the ashes back in and all over the place.

Needless to say I never rented them a plane again.

I knew you were going, too. I wish I had remembered that I had these photos. I would have posted them before you left.

You probably recognize the lake. Did you have a good time?

it was a great time, my parents took me and 4 other friends basically free (just had to pay lift tickets and ski rentals) we stayed in the river run village, i'm not sure if you know the keystone area but its right at the bottom of the main lifts

the lake you are talking about, is it the one in keystone village? or is that a different one... i'm pretty sure i remember one more

    are you a skiier?

(go ahead and answer in seperate posts IF YOU WISH)

Actually, I need to apologize and correct myself. I just took a closer look ath the photo. That is Vail, not Dillon. The highway running alongside the lake is I-70. You can see the golf course that Gerald Ford used to play at along the highway.

    Part 2...

Nope - not a skier any more. Used to ski when I first moved out here but the back started giving me problems. Several years of therapy have made the pain a non issue (although it is always somewhat there,) but I am reluctant to take a chance.
