How do I use a punch?

Rotate it while you're pushing it into the end of the cigar.

Pretty much says it all !
Unless you want specifics..mine goes in 0.143 of an inch (a bit over 1/8'') (I had a set of calipers handy)

For those that are interested, I did give the punch a go last night on a Robusto. A slight twist, it was more simple than I thought. I removed possibly about a mm of filler.

The draw was a little tighter than usual but not a problem. Probably better than my usual cut, but it helped the cigar a lot and means I wasn't chewing on leaves by the end of it.
