Thread: Fellow Outdoor Smokers

  1. Default Fellow Outdoor Smokers

Anybody else here really, really enjoy a smoke on the patio/balcony/porch? I do and my current issue is flying biting insects harrasing me...I've tried a few different bug off" type products and not really impressed with any of them...can anybody suggest an effective candle or spray to keep them out of my good time?

Try using the OFF brand candle. I use these when I go camping and they keep the bugs away pretty well. Plus the candle is huge and lasts a really long time.

    one word....

    THERMACELL

These things work great when I'm hunting, and you don't need to spray stinky deet all over you!

Citronella works well for me when I go camping.

At home we have this insect repelling device that uses propane. We hook up one of those 20 lb tanks and set the device in the corner of the yard away from where we relax. It's basically a huge bug trap. One tank lasts all Summer, and Summers are pretty long down here.

Or you could just hang a bug zapper

The propane thingy works great for mosquitoes, but is kinda expensive if I remember right, about $100 or so but the propane tank lasts a long time like spiffy said, and it definitely works on mosquitos but not so much on flies.

I smoke on the back patio when the weather is good and if my wife is sitting with me she always lights up the chiminea and smokes the place up with pinion pine....this seems to keep the flies away.

Unless I'm at the shop or at Chris' place I always smoke outdoors. I'm personally just not a fan of sitting in a smoke filled room, even if it is my own. Not to mention I love being outdoors at night anyway.

I always smoke outside and the propane tank is the way to go... I also find that if you can get enough buddies to smoke with you, the smoke from some good sticks keeps the bugs away as well.

The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done." -unknown

I think OFF makes a yard fogger. You spray it about 5 or 10 minutes before you go out, by then the smell is gone and it last for 4 hours or so.
