    Default wrapper problems

I've been noticing small hairline cracks in the wrapper of a fair number of sticks that I pull from my humi. They are not severe, most about 1/8" to 1/4" in length and they appear to be mainly just through the wrapper and don't affect the binder.....but they do sometimes affect the smoke volume until the burn gets past them. Rh has been steady between 65-69 for several months, temp runs around 70-72f consistently.....no spikes on the min/max readings for either temp or rh.

Do these cracks appear over time normally? Am I possibly not inspecting them closely enough when I purchase them? Don't think its handling damage as I try not to move them around too much when selecting smokes.......I'm a little confused.

Are you absolutely positive there were no spikes?? As a thought, were any of the smokes "shocked" with the RH. Eg: I keep mine between 52-65% and mid 60s in temps. If I put some of mine (at the low end) in yours at the high end, I think there's be issues.

Sure as hell sounds like it to me.

I'll take another look at my notebook when I get home to be absolutely sure, but I don't believe there were..... I think the max temp was 72 and min was 67.....max rh was 68 and the min was 65.

I decided to post this after the Partagas spanish rosado I had last night had two cracks about an inch up from the foot.....both very small. I've had that stick in the humi for around 5 months. Over the weekend I had a CT 1959 churchill...small crack again, but it had only been in the humi for about 2 weeks so maybe I missed it when I picked it up.

When I first set up my humidor I had some rh problems and trouble with uneven humidification so I worked pretty hard on stabilizing it and have tried to pay pretty close attention to it.

How often do you move the cigars around? Also, do you keep the cigars in the cellophane? When was the last time you reseasoned your humidor? You may still have uneven humidification.

I don''t move them around too much. Most Saturdays I try to take what I think I will smoke the next week from either the bottom compartment of the humi or the coolerdor and put them in the top tray.....that way I just open the lid and grab a smoke throughout the week. I can't say that I always resist the urge to rumage around and look at everything.....but I try.

I do keep everything that comes in cello, in the cello until I smoke it. I've only had the humi for a little over a year, and after the initial trouble I had with it, when I got it stabilized.....I haven't messed with it too much other than to add to the humidifier when the rh starts on the down trend.

Should I empty it and reseason it? I don't know that the problem is that severe to go to the trouble.......or do you all think it will just get worse if I don't change something?

These wrapper tears, do they only happen in your Humidor or does it also happen in your Coolidor? If that's the case, your humidity is fluctuating too much in the Humidor. IF it happens in both your Humidor and Coolidor, then I don't know what to tell you. Do you notice these tears from single sticks you buy from your B&M or also from box purchases??

I noticed you said you add to the humidifier. Do you also use humidity beads or do you only use the humidifier that came with your humidor and use a 50/50 solution?

I've stopped putting high-end premium sticks in my glass-top humidor (I don't think it's keeping temp and Humidity consistently to where I would like it), so I just primarily use my Coolidor to store my cigars. I only use my humidor for dollar sticks for when my friends want to come over and smoke some cigars.

If this consistently happens, you may want to do the same thing. Good luck.

I pull the cigars I am going to smoke directly from the humidor. I keep the coolidor up around 70% rh for storage which is a little to "wet" to smoke for me.......maybe this is it.....could there be too much difference between my coolerdor and the humi? Should I lower the rh in the cooler to the same as my humidor? But I thought I had read that higher rh was appropriate to age cigars.

The store may have been keping them a bit drier than what your humidor is at?
