  1. Default After Taste

Please forgive the truly newbie question, but...

What is most commonly done about the dark-foul-sour after-taste that usually follows a cigar?

I have tried different beverages (libations!) with them, and that seems to REDUCE, but not ELIMINATE such after-taste.

I have also tried not consuming the entire cigar; letting it dwindle somewhere beyond the half-way point so as not to go down to the literally "bitter end."

    All to no avail. Suggestions?

Brushing your teeth afterwards, or at least before bed, helps. If I smoke then go to bed without brushing, I definately taste it in the morning. I don't find it bitter though. I don't think it has to do with how much you smoke, so smoke that thing if you enjoy it.

What are you smoking? Do you notice it more with certain cigars?

Agreed. if you brush your teeth that should help. Listerine or any mouthwash works well also.

I don't think you can totally eliminate it. Try a 50/50 solution of 3% hyd. peroxide and water. Rince, don't swallow.

For me the whole experience of smoking a cigar are all the experiences of the stick. The smells before you toast it. The bouquet it gives off as you smoke it. The tastes on the tongue as you smoke it. And lastly the aftertaste that dances on the tongue long after it has been smoked. I try to enjoy all of these things when I smoke a cigar.

Try and look at the aftertaste as part of the experience. If the aftertaste is something you are not enjoying, switch sticks and experience as many different sticks until you find one that finishes the way you want it.

Thats the beauty of this hobby. One gets to try many different things and sees what they like and what they don’t like…I know what I like in a cigar but more importantly I know what I don’t like.

If after all this you still find yourself not liking the aftertaste of a cigar but still enjoy the act of smoking it… Buy yourself a tooth brush and carry it around with you. I also find that Certs help a lot too.

I've found poor quality tobacco leaves a nasty aftertaste. What are you smoking?

I find that one of the "baking soda" toothpastes seems to work better than average.

Hell, sometimes I will smoke a good cigar down until it's burning my fingers. You know, just can't put it down, or am I cheap?

    1. What cigar are you smoking, that's causing this.
    2. How was the cigar kept? Humidor, outside, 65% Humidity, 65 temp?

I've noticed bad cigars, produce harsh smoke and horrible aftertaste. Also, even the premium of premiums, if kept in horrible conditions can produce the same effects.

When I first started smoking, the aftertaste was always very pronounced, even on high quality cigars. Now, I barely notice it. So it may just be something you get used too.... that being said, try eating something(of substance) before brushing teeth/mouth wash. That always worked best for me.
