Default In need of experienced advice

so now that i have a decent tupperdor set up and maintaining decent humidity my cigars have been doing great. however there is little cedar to speak of in the set up so when i open it as you can imagine the rH plumets and takes hours to rebound. my seeming answer to this is that i have recently realized that i have a cigar box made from spanish cedar. only realized this after i got some cedar and compaired the woods. thing is i have had the box since i was around 5 years old, making it 15 years of age. my question is should i clean it before introducing it to my humidor and if yes, how?

P.S. for those that may be wondering the box is for a 5 pack of authentic ISOM H.Upmanns.

I would suggest going to a local smoke shop and get a new box that has a lot of cedar. Some have divider slats or larger sheets or some even have a square cedar stick that fills a space. Any of these arranged in your humi would certainly help with humidity control as well as the red cedar scent. I cut up a lot of this box material to make spills for lighting.

you mentioned red cedar, i was under the impression this was a no no as the smell of it can overpower cigars. if this was false information i have a sixpack of red cedar blocks about an inch thick and 3'x3' that would fix my problem asap. i have used these in my other humidor before researching and finding out this was not appropriate. it would be money if this was not the case. also part of the reason i want to use the ld box is because it holds nostalgic value as i have owned for as long as i can remember.

There are a number cedar species. I believe Spanish Cedar would be another common name for it. Just don't use any of the "aromatic" cedars like what are used in closets or cedar chests.
Like I said, your local tabacco shop might have some freebie boxes. You can just cut the top off and use them as trays.

    RED CEDAR (Eng)
    SPANISH CEDAR (Eng)
    ACAJOU ROUGE (Fre)
    ACAJOU-BOIS (Fre)
    CEDRAT (Fre)
    CEDRO ROJO (Spa)

Don't worry about your humidity drop. While the air in the tupperware may drop quickly, your cigars don't suffer that same problem, especially if the cello is still on them. Just don't open your tupperwarre 35 times a day and your cigars should be fine.

yeah i try to limit the opening to only when the rh peaks alittle. i mean really i have no reason to open it other than that as i only smoke maybe once a month, and currently with the weather bing so cold i am on hiatus untill it starts to thaw. anyways i will most likely be getting a box here soon to at least help organize the thing. thnx for the advice once again.
