    Default Job go Bye-Bye

Well, sad to say, two weeks ago to this day (Jan 16th) my department is closing and everyone has no job as of May 31st.

Corporate says it's a Re-Org to consolidate the departments to North Carolina and West Virginia. So, all Kentucky, Maryland, and Virginia accounts will move to Charleston, WV and South Carolina accounts will move into North Carolina. Significantly less cost of living, therefore will be able to manage accounts for less and save the bank tons of moola.

One good thing is that I'm being offered a position in Charleston, WV.
    - Promotion two grades up.
    - More pay
    - Stock Options

    So..........decisions decisions.

Anyone here from WV that can nudge me to accept the position?

    Andrew

PS - there is a great cigar shop downtown and whenever WVU wins a bowl game, they give 25% off everything.....WHICH is huge because their prices are practially retail (except for Anejos).

Sorry to hear that, but it could be worse. You at least have the chance to get a promotion. Thats a nice option especially if your not tied down where you are. But then again that is a pretty big decision to make. Either way, hope it works out for you.

First, sorry to haar you've a victim of a re-org. We just had one here at my company that missed me, but I know that no one is ever safe from such things.

If I was offered a promotion, I would strongly consider it even if I had to move.

Do some research on the area online, you can probably learn a lot by doing so.

Hopefully someone here is from WV so you can get a personal perspective. I've never been there so I can't say one way or another.

I lived in VA for a time and while I didn't spend a lot of time in WV, the time I did spend there I was amazed at the beauty of the country.
I would suggest making a weekend trip to the area and get a little taste for it before making such a big decision.
Best of luck whatever you decide.

I would say that if you're even semi-confident you will not be "Re-Organized" after moving, then GO FOR IT! I have transplanted several times, and each time I have been glad I did. Sure, there are a lot of people/places/activities left behind, but I find a new perspective on the world very refreshing every 10 years or so.

I have been through WV a few times, very beautiful part of the world... at least the view from the turnpike.

Lol, anything looks beautiful from the turnpike, especially when your on the PA side! I mean really that road isnt maintained at all, not for the amount of taxes we have to pay here. Guess it could be worse.

Anyway, WV does have some nice scenery to it.

Wanted to update you guys. I did accept the job. Actually did it end of business yesterday. They countered my counter and it was close enough. Plus, I get my normal yearly increase and bonus in April.

I will be moving to WEST VIRGINIA!

Thanks for all the sound advice. I'm young and should take these opportunities now than later. Plus, there are a lot of nice golf courses, indoor tennis clubs and white water rafting close by, so I can occupy myself and save a lot of loot too.

If you ever venture up to PA to Ohio Pile, let me know cuz I live on the way up to it. You can swing by the house on your way up or back. Or I could always take the bike out for a nice scenic ride up there.

WV boy here. Glad to see your moving to God's Country. If you have not been there, Charleston is not too bad. Kinda dirty looking but a nice town non-the-less. It is also home to the 2007 World's Stongest Man if that matters to you

Glad it worked out for you. I'll hold off on the West Virginia jokes for now.

Congratulations, I hope that WV works out well for you, and if it doesn't, you can always move down to Gods country, Texas (cept for Dallas, y'know). Plenty of jobs down here, especially in Houston.
