Have you tried the Dalmore Gran Reserva (formerly their "Cigar Malt")? It's a Highlands Scotch. To me - just a wee bit different, but it has many of the same rich, earthy kinds of characteristics (including the peaty-ness) I like in Oban. I love a good full bodied smoke with a tall Oban and a splash of waterI haven't tried Dalmore, at least not that I remember. There were a few hazy days in Edinburgh...I'll definitely have to pick up a bottle.
I've never enjoyed Irish whisky as much as single malts but I'll keep an open mind if I can ever find a bottle on this side of the pond.

When I have a drink with a cigar, I choose whatever I have: Captain Morgan's Private Stock, Makers Mark, Patron Silver, Knob Creek or Jack Daniels. My favorite is Capt. Morgan's Private Stock with either MUG or A&W Rootbeer... Uncle Steve put me onto this combination and I don't know what it is, but it goes great with any cigar. Tonight, I matched it with a 5 Vegas Cask Strength and a Macanudo Hyde Park... delicious!!
