Please do enlighten me.

Sadly, a few do look suspect -- especially the Monte Edicion Limitada and the Partagas'. With Cohiba's, I assume they are fake unless I bought them myself from a reputable source (or one of my enlightened brethren can vouch for its authenticity) -- hell, I wouldn't be surprised if more fake Cohiba's are sold globally in a given year than authentic ones. The Quinteros and Por Larranaga are probably legit -- at least I've never seen a fake of those brands.
CA maintains a counterfeit gallery -- take a look: http://http://www.cigaraficionado.co...,3390,,00.html
I have been holding onto some of these for more than 15 years. They have naturally just been slipped into the cello to protect them from damage. I have only smoked a couple Cuban cigars in my lifetime. They were good, but I like to save them for special occasions. I smoked on of the said Cuban's when my daughter was born in 1999.
I realize you probably have a ton of experience with Cuban cigars, but I assure you these are all legit, they came from chaps like you. People in the military have given me some, cigar tobacconist's have given me some and I have some very good clients that have given me some.
Those are all prime sources for fake cigars. Especially the ones from people in the Military, trust me on that one in particular.
Doc.
Thanks EGQ and Devil Doc, this is information that is actually constructive and useful. A welcome change:smiley37:

This would be why Eville knows so much:smiley2:!
No, I just saw the cello, which is pretty telltale sign that they aren't legitimate, which is why I then cleared it up.
Send them to me, ill smoke them and let you know if they are legitimate :smiley36:
I hope you know that was in jest.
Now if they were acids Cinda is who you want to send them to :smiley36:
she is the expert on them.
pardon me while i go hide, out of reach of a pissed off cinda
My brother-in-law picked up a few fake Monte's (complete with a mini glass top case) for me when he was on his honeymoon -- he didn't know any better -- they look like the edicion limitada you have. The biggest clue is the botched fluer de lis. The trick is to eyeball a real label before you go shopping -- I can spot a fake Cohiba from 20 paces now, but that wasn't always the case. For the most part, the Cubans take great pride in their cigars -- crooked labels, askew type set, rough cut edges on the labels are all certain indicators that something is hinky... I'll post some pics of the fake Monte's when I get a chance.
Play nice -- lots of knowledge here to be shared.
More fake Cuban cigars:smiley4:
Don't post pictures of suspect shit and then get your panties in a wad when someone points it out.....and you'll have all the constructive and useful information you could desire.
No shame in getting taken on isom's......I have been, and I'll bet ya just about everybody else has as well. Doesn't sound to me like you paid for any of this shit anyway, all gifts, so you're out nothing. You should be appreciative of the heads up before you wasted your $$.
Take the two Monte's you have there and but them side by side......compare the FdL's. :smiley2:
I think I see three Monte's. One looks " en cedro"
I don't think I ever remember a Monte ISOM en cedro.
Then again, what the fuck do I know.
Maybe it's an old Upmann.
If your intent were to be truly "more informed" - perhaps it might be a good idea to welcome the opportunity to engage in this community regardless how you view the messenger. :smiley2:
...without question - and without much scrutiny - it is clear you have a substantial number of fakes amongst your stash.
Thought I'd liven up the thread again with some pictures.
This is the beautiful Lotus humidor my wife bought me for my birthday recently

Some of the goodies inside the humidor. I live in a very, very dry climate, so I have a large PG jar in there and will sometimes add soaked sponges to increase the humidity. Oldest cigar in there is a CAO MX2 from about 18 months ago and newest is on the far left, the Davidoff Puro Maginifico :smiley37:

I use my cigar jar when there is some overflow of cigars. Humidor stays at home, cigar jar stays in my office. Makes for a great conversation piece for the people coming in and out of my office all day.

Nice humidor. You will grow out of that quickly.
This addiction gets out of control.
Indeed, that may very well be the case. I'm already 3-stacked on the right side. At the same time, I don't have a ton of time to smoke, I really only smoke 3-4 sticks/month. So, a good number of the cigars you see in the humidor will actually be aged a bit by the time I get around to them :smiley20:
I no my Humidor is pretty small and there is not much in it but
it's a start

Does anyone know if the Punch band has changed from this?
http://www.cigaraficionado.com/Cigar...392,20,00.html
Look at where dbateman is from . When my Swedish friend buy cubans from his local shop and mails them to me I know they are real and do not GAF about date codes. I cannot vouch for his cubans but find no reason to give him shit about it either
Nice humidor dbateman.
I think its is the genuine artical the band dose not show up very well in the pic
the lines and rope border are very neat ,rope and coins logo is raised
its a very nice looking Band
I found a mention of this band on this site...I did not buy it on this site and have nothing to do with the site
http://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/brand.aspx?brand=Punch
Thanks for pointing that out I just learnt a bit about Punch band's
.Dave
Kev - Not trying to give him shit. I just don't know much about ISOMs and most of my education comes from CA. I always want to learn more about cigars!
Regardless, a very nice humidor!
Thats cool I wasnt meaning to sound like I was jumping you :smiley37:
How do the sticks in the drawers work out? I have the same one that I got as a gift and I use the drawers for non cigar items but have been thinking about changing that. When I look at the drawers tho, they aren't sealed very well and was wondering how they hold up for you.
Thanks.
Poor man's refrigidor part 1:
This is a $58 B & D Thermoelectric refrigerator available at Wally World.
Two Peltier units - one high, one low...very cool. Seriously, I needed a JC manual thermostat to bring it above 55 degrees.
Had to remove the plastic projection on the door.
Specs:
Interior dimensions (useable space) 13.5"W X 11.5"D X 16.5"H
Exterior " 17"W X 19"D X 20"H
Poor man's refrigidor part 2:
Total investment with shelves, JC thermostat, and beads, about $150
After it cools off some this fall, I will finish it by lining the rest of it with Honduran Luan.
Will hold approx 200 sticks, more with some custom built trays.

Honesty I never smoked a cigar acid or real....I haven't even smoked a cigarette except maybe an eve the brand that had the pretty filter when I was 11. lmao!

This is my humidor its a 75-100 count Bally glass top I got in the mail this weekend. I've spent the past few days seasoning it and moving it around the house trying to find the right temp/Rh spot for it. Right now its at 74/64 but the temp. has been cooling down from 77 the past few hours since I've kept it at this certain spot. So I'm thinking by Friday I'll be ready for a newbie sampler...
Its just a start and I'm sure ill be setting up a coolidor within the next few months lol...
EDIT: Since I've moved it to my bedroom floor against the wall leading outside its been at 70/65 for the past few hours. so I'm feeling good about a putting some cigars in there now.
