I just re-read my post, the first part should be slide the band, not wrapper down.
If the draw is your big issue, just put a finger over it to get the draw tight. Hopefully you get a tight enough draw for it to smoke to the rip and then you are golden from there. If you do slide the band down or use some sort of paper to cover it, you will still need to press on it to seal it tightly. Either way, I've found it to work, especially during these cold times.

I would Just put my finger over it and smoke it. Every so often When I'm carrying my cigars around for work to home to where ever they get a little banged up. I have a large herf box but only use a bag for those times I only have a 5 pack with me. At times it's a pain smoking a damaged one but I have only myself to blame for it. If it's a real issue for you do what nhcigarfan suggested.
