Way to get her (son) started in the right direction...I guess as a merchant you wanted to take advantage of a situation like that. Or, maybe she just wanted to blindly throw away that kind of money. Regardless of whether or not you tried to steer her away from a dumb purchase like that, I guess if she has that kind of money to blow on an inferior cigar, all the power to her...
*edit* I just looked up the current online price of a box. It looks like, in addition to everything else, you priced gouged the shit out of a cigar that was already retardedly price gouged by the manufacturer. Cigar.com, which offers far from the best box deals, has a box of Beauties for $675. A fucking horrendous deal to begin with, but after your ass-reaming $325 higher gougefest, it goes from dumb to just plain flatline IQ idiocy on the part of the buyer, and highway fucking robbery on your part.

Yup, check out: http://fujipub.com/cigartax.html
You'll also notice that PA has no cigar tax, which is probably why most online cigar retailers are based there (CI, Famous, Holts, etc). Ditto for florida.
Not really fair to compare bhand's store to anything online. I'm not sure where cigar.com is centered, but my guess is it's not cali.
Very true - Commiefornia's taxes are abysmal. However, buying a box of Beauties as an intro to cigar smoking is an equally terrible idea.
Also, your data is pretty outdated. Cali's current tax is about 15% lower than that.

The most expensive cigar I've ever had was the Zino Platinum Crown line. They run from $35-$42 apiece, but after smoking a few, they are well worth it. It's almost like realizing that no cigar you've ever had can measure up to this beauty.
They smoke perfectly, and have not a hint of bitterness or harshness. Very smooth, but full of flavor, and they shift on you at least twice. That's the effect you get from lovingly cared for, 5+year aged tobacco. I buy them about once a month, that's all I can afford, but I would smoke them a lot more often if I could afford more.
There's only two kinds of cigars, the kind you like and the kind you don't.
