I don't sell boxes usually, the one time I did it was a few years ago, and we were hit with them 3 days before inventory. I have guys that call up trying to order boxes of these cigars every time I get them in. I don't mail order to anyone that is not already a customer in good standing. I also do not put non-customers on our call list. B&M's are all about customer service, I'm not going to sell out all my good stuff to someone that either never shops at our store or only buys "had to get sticks". It would be a disservice to our customers that wait all year to get a few sticks. Also this prevents asshats from buying boxes in the store and selling a $9 stick for $25.
I see where you're coming from but I just don't think it is right to limit a customer like that. In the shop I go to, I don't go often, but still it is the only one I go to. They carry Opus and I never see any limitations. I've never seen any limitations period, only they are too expensive.

Edit: TCG - Doesn't Fuente make dealers agree not to sell some of these sticks over the internet?
Yes, but most internet sellers don't buy from Fuente & Newman. They get them from a 3rd party.

This is another practice I hate. Inflating margins. And keep in mind, just because a store has them doesn't mean they're an authorized reseller. They again can get them from a 3rd Party. Also there are parts of the country that these rare sticks don't sell that well. Occasionally a customer will come in and tell us they bought a box at a store because they just weren't selling there.

I have to disagree. I don't think it's fare to the 100's of customers that don't get to buy cigars that are only available once a year because some greedy customer for what ever reason buys the only 4 - 6 boxes I get to sell. I'd rather have a few pissed off customers because they aren't allowed to buy a box, so that my other customers may enjoy these cigars.

I'm not talking about buying 5 boxes, I'm talking about a box max. But we can agree to disagree. The prices aren't inflated, I think the #4 was $8 and the Reserva d Chateau was about $15 or so, give or take a few dollars.

I agree with this, but I also think as mentioned it depends on where you are. In places with a number of customers or say in New York, and larger cities they sell fast. really fast... in more backwater places it might not be a big deal if someone were to buy a box.

    Tampa ain't no backwater! haha..

I live in tampa also...and I will just say I can usually get Opus X year round off the shelf. Heck today I went to a couple places and they had the anejo's on the shelf.

Location is it. Now if someone were to just buy the whole box..hell yea I would be pissed. I just got to pick up two new opus X sizes(for me) this week...off the shelf.

I doubt the local b&m here sells many of the opus.

A Fuente Fuente goes for over $20 each. Even with the extra CA taxes, that's a bullshit price.

LOL... that reminds me of the gunslinger who was always walking around with a bandaged foot. Quick on the finger but slow on the draw.

I have to agree with TampaCigarGirl. And besides, the libertarian in me wants to just say "It's her store, she has the right to do whatever she wants." If her policy doesn't serve your needs then you have the right to go someplace else. That's cool, it's just market forces in action.

Ditto the libertarian perspective. As for OpusX....here in the "backwaters" of Kansas.....I have never even seen an OpusX at a b/m.....any of the 5 in the city. Which means, obviously, I have never seen an OpusX period!

Count yourself lucky if you have the opportunity to buy even 2 or 3! I haven't matured enough as a cigar smoker to waste one on my under developed pallate, not to mention they are expensive, so it doesn't piss me off too bad. But when the time comes....I'll have no choice but to buy them online.
