That is certainly a good technique for a beginner, but I feel it is better to learn how to cut right at the cap. If you need to take more off, that.'s easy. But I find that the draw is usually the way it is meant to be when you just clip the cap. If you cut it correctly you will end up with just a small tobacco dome in your hand.
