    Default A Travel Humidor

I'm going to be looking for a travel humidor. I drive a truck and will be out for a week or so at a time. I don't know how well cigars will travel. The temp in the truck will change a lot over the winter. Warm during the day and very cold over night. Then you have to think about the no so smooth ride of the truck. The humidor will bounce around a lot. Any help you could give will be great. Thanks.

herf-a-dor, otterbox and I think Xixar all make travel humidors. I have a herf-a-dor that holds 5 and a cigar caddy that holds 15 or so smokes. They work for my needs. Which is only weekend car trips but I don't leave it in the car when I get to my destination. The temperature regulation may be an issue in hot weather. they are all black and plastic so I'm sure the heat would rise in them. Just do a google search for travel humidor and you'll see whats out there. There are so many kinds.

**I got the Herf-a-dor as part of a combo deal on cigarbid for around 20 bucks. 5 cigars(monte media noche) a crappy butane lighter and the travel humi. not a bad deal

I did a google search. There are so many kinds. I did see some of the black plastic kinds. I'll look a little more into them.
Once in every two months or so I'll be out for two weeks. So I'll need to be able to keep a few with me.
My everyday smoke are Ascots that come in a tin of ten. Do they need to stay in a humidor? The tin will last for 3 days or so. I guess that will affect the size of the travel humidor I'm looking for.

    Thanks Logan37

The black ones are damned near bulletproof. There is a review on the otterbox in the accessories forum. Those ones also have foam in them so on a bumpy truck ride they should help protect your sticks. And for temperature issues, I was thinking about it and why not throw it in small cooler (with an ice pack if needed). That should correct temperature issues in the summer. I don't see you having temperature issues in the cooler/cold months. Or maybe you can just make a small coolerdor and get some sort of padding to protect your cigars. That should work too, since that's all those travel humidors really are anyway.

If you're only out for a few days, ziplock bags will do fine. if your out for 2 weeks, I would get some sort of humidification on them. It's probably not dire, but I would.

That sounds good. I'll have to get one ordered soon.
I also found out today that a friend of mine has a friend who makes humidors for some local shops. He want to make a few humidors for my friend who asked if I wanted one. All we have to do is supply the hardware. I have a lot of walnut that is perfect. What else should I be looking for as far as a home humi goes?

Definitely get an otterbox or xikar. Get one that at least holds 30 cigars because you never know what you'll want to smoke. You'll also want to get 60% humidity bead puck for the humidification too (replace the puck that comes with the humidor). Propylene glycol solutions and florist foam just don't do an efficient job. Make sure you keep a bottle of distilled water in the truck.
